Lenora was born February 20th. Although the doctors had given up on her, due to her being the product of a premature birth, GOD, with HIS infinite wisdom and unending grace had other plans in mind. As a result of the complications involved in her birth, Lenora experienced some hearing difficulties. Having what would be considered minimal hearing abilities, in fact being considered close to deaf, GOD took what the enemy had intended for bad and used it as an opportunity to show HIS goodness and mercy, in the evidence of Lenora’s exceptional musical gift. At the humble of 3 years old, Lenora became a member of , The Junior Choir of Canaan Institutional Baptist Church, located in Norwalk CT. It was here, that GOD would begin to exhibit HIS awesome favor in her life. People found it to be quite puzzling that although not being able to hear and understand normal speaking clearly , that this child of the mere age of 3, was able to hear, understand, and in fact display such a high level of mastery for musical worship. At the age of 6, while attending a church service with her parents, it would be here that GOD would once again, affirm the awesome calling on her life. Lenora’s hearing was restored!During that same year, Lenora became a member of a traveling performance group known as, The Voices of Harmony, under the direction her uncle, and founder, Mr.William Alston. She remained with this group until the age of 12, at which time she was presented with an opportunity to sing with a group consisting of her peers, ranging in ages from 12 to 18, know as the, Norwalk Youth Community Concert Choir, under the direction of , Mr. Charles Askew. It was here that Lenora would receive her first lead, in the groups’ performance of “ Be Grateful†as well as “I Surrender Allâ€. It was in this season that GOD would reveal HIMSELF to Lenora, in on more personal level, and so, at the age of 16, Lenora accepted JESUS CHRIST, as her LORD and SAVIOUR, and within the same year received the gift of the HOLY SPIRIT…. In her pursuit to know GOD more intimately and to begin to utilize her gift to its fullest potential, she became a member of Christian Tabernacle, COGIC, under the leadership of its founder and former pastor, Mr. Franklin Walker Sr. During her tenure here, while being an active member of the church choir, Lenora would also sing with New Love, formally known as Christian Love.Upon graduation from Brien McMahon High School, in 1985, Lenora would move to Bridgeport, CT. and become a member of, The Turner’s Faith Temple, COGIC Intl.
It was here that GOD would permit Lenora’s gift to once again flourish, in the establishing of The Teens for TFT, also known as Youthful Praise. It was in 1989, that Lenora began to feel the need and the nudging of GOD to expand her territory, therefore she placed her position, her baton if you will, into the hands of Pastor Shawn Brown, and continued in the cultivating of her gift by becoming a cast member of the Gospel theatrical hit play, “Momma I Want To Sing, part IIâ€. At the same time Lenora was performing the duties of a paraprofessional, with the Bridgeport Board of Education, Bridgeport, CT. During this time Lenora was presented with an opportunity to form the schools first ever gospel choir, thus in 1992, The Dunbar School Gospel Choir was born, a group that has made various appearance along the Eastern Coastal area. In conjunction with the success of this endeavor, Lenora would later assume the position of Director of The Central High School Gospel Choir, another well known traveling musical organization within the state of CT.Lenora continued on and since then has had the opportunity of forming other great community choirs such as Pure Praise, known through out the NY, NJ and CT areas. Lenora has since had the opportunity to sing background for various artist such as; Marvin Sapp, Robin Rowe-Stewart, and Donald Lawrence. She has performed on the same billing with such artist as Walter Hawkins, Edwin Hawkins, Albertina Walker, Karen Clark Sheard, Dorinda Clark Coles, James Cleveland, Worship and Praise featuring James Hall, Fred Hammond, and Commissioned, along with numerous appearances on BET’s Bobby Jones Gospel.
