CYCLONES

About Me

MEET THE CYCLONES!
With hooky choruses and three-part harmonies, one might be led to think that the CYCLONES view the world only through the rose-tinted lenses of optimism. In reality, this Chicago-based band uses its foundation of melodic-punk and power-pop, to more deeply examine the endeavors of our lives. Lives that often promise so much, but then fail to deliver. Like viewing a sunny landscape through shattered windows, this band, like most of us, is caught between the gravity of life and the lift of hope.

NotLame.com "This 24 minute, 8 song mini-CD heralds not only a very good buy at $7 but, more importantly, a new rocking pop band that is making a statement of purpose bringing sweet, crunching rocking pop in the vein of Material Issue, Love Nut, The Replacements, The Lemonheads and The Gentleman out into the open and reaching, hopefully, an appreciative audience here at Not Lame. Confidently, Cyclones shine a beacon for tuneful, crunchy and rocking power pop. It all drips with sweet but heavy harmonies, uncanny, unpretentious knack for affable hooks, and each song, loaded with passionate, grungy riffs, ends quickly and knocks you on your keester. The 8 songs represent no-filler, maximum effect. "
Eric Sorensen, Fufkin.com "... Power pop with an edge. Cool tunes when you want to crank up the amps!"
Gary Glauber, Fufkin.com "... a polished, passionate and powerful debut from these rocking power poppers, a brief sampler that leaves the listener wanting more."
Kool Kat Musik "If you like your garage pop with muscle then you've come to the right place!""Features lots and lots of crunchy and jangly guitars! If you like bands like Rayon City Quartet, Who Hit John, middle-period Replacements, et al, then you'll adore this one! EXCELLENT!!"
Jam Records "Excellent *new* power pop from Illinois! This band sounds like The Chevelles, Goo Goo Dolls, Cheap Trick, Superscope, Dipsomaniacs, Teenage Fanclub, and more! This band has a great sound! The drumming is exciting, the lead guitars sound like Rick Nielson, and the tunes are nice and chunky. Good, good stuff!"
Craig Leve / Snap, Crackle, POP! KWVA, Eugene OR "KILLER! Tell the fans we'll be spinning Cyclones"
The Illinois Entertainer (re: a demo containing three songs currently on "Walk Fast...Head Down") "Cornerstones of any good power pop tune are a catchy melody, smart lyrics, and hooky instrumental riffs. That the trio of musicians that are the Cyclones also offers up vocals/ harmonies reminiscent of jangly pop icon Alex Chilton (Big Star) puts them on even surer pop footing. Their musical optimism is infectious -- inducing one to join in on the choruses while wishing there were more than just three songs from their 2003 demo with which to sing along."
"Extremely Highly Recommended!"
