SWAMP DONKEY are the bastard offspring of Muddy Waters and the mighty Zeppelin. Raised on hell fire whisky water, these guys have crawled and kicked their way through too many sweat and beer stained spit and sawdust rock n blues joints the world over.
Fronted by Big Al Russel, seasoned session vocalist much in demand over the last two decades for his throaty roar that can strip the bark from a gum tree at three hundred paces. If that doesn’t get you beware! The dive bombing Stuka screech from his electric harp in maximum warp overdrive will be bringing up the rear.
Electric six string blues master Trevor Prowse stamps his own style all over the Donkey sound. His guitar speaks in tongues that leap from a gentle whisper to a screaming banshee wail in the drop of a back beat.
Mark Cincotta provides the thunderous heart beat that drives the Donkey on through their tales of whiskey tears and switchblade Saturday nights
Mike Hagan crash landed into the swamp in a big silver bird that came from the north before dragging his six string razor from the wreckage hungry for a fix of no nonsense twelve bore rock n roll.
The Donkey had the heart but it still didn’t have a soul. Until out of the darkest corner of the Swamp from where no law man has ever returned came Chuck the original Highway Robba. With his funked up pump action bass riff’s he wandered into camp and threw his lot in with the last gang in town.
Chuck & Mark are two halves of the same apocalyptic beat machine that nails to the boards the high octane experience that is the Donkey.
The Donkey sound is kicking blues with a story, campfire tale lyrics soaked in bar room wisdom that script all our own true life up and downs. Songs that strut and swagger with the confidence of too many gigs in the saddle and long nights staring down the white lies that take us to the next show, beer and a smoke.
The live show sometimes ventures from the Donkey’s own track to steal a cover version or two, soaks them in bourbon before bending them kicking and screaming into the Donkey mould. Nods of recognition shared between fellow mojo shredders Willie Dixon, Johnny Cash, Dylan and the Clash are there to be shared by all.
Their riff driven originals come from a wealth of songwriting experience and classic rock influences!
