About Me

Sean owns and operates Timms Tunes, one of Australia's largest audio/music post production facilities. He is an engineer, composer, arranger & producer with a long line of credits in the film, television and radio commercial industry.
Starting piano lessons at the age of 10, Sean soon realised that a career in the music industry was the only thing for him. Conscientiously studying classical piano with the best teachers in the state, he also developed an interest in keyboards and synthesisers after his father bought him a copy of Rick Wakeman's 'Journey To The Centre of the Earth' LP when he was 14. At 16 after saving for months (and a little help from his folks), he bought his first monophonic synthesiser, a Kawai 100F. This was to be the first of many!
He joined a cabaret band with some of his school friends and proceeded to make an income from doing Italian weddings etc... Because at the time, no sheet music was available for a lot of the progressive music he was listening to, he started to transcribe it himself, using a portable tape player and his trusty old upright piano. Due to the constant playing and rewinding, he went through about 6 tape machines. Consequently, this trained his ear to a very high degree and held him in good stead for his future in music.
By the time he was 20, Sean was in demand as a first call keyboard player. Able to play in any style, his classical technique, finely tuned ear and multi keyboard setup enabled him to rise to the top of his chosen field. During that time, as well as attending college to study jazz piano, he was also gigging up to 6 nights a week. Sean estimates he spent an average of 10 hours a day sitting at a piano or keyboard. It was at this time that he met Monty Ruggiero, Unitopia's drummer & formed a friendship that has lasted well over 2 decades.
A chance meeting with a local jingle producer paved the way for Sean's passion for the recording studio. Starting as a first call session piano player, he moved on to become an in-house arranger, composer and programmer. This was in the early days of the Fairlight CMI and ProTools. Working full-time in this industry as well as performing up to 6 times a week, Sean was able to afford the very latest in music technology. It wasn't unusual to see him behind a Wakemanesque stack of up to a dozen keyboards. This was of course before MIDI was introduced!
Due to the Grand Prix Rock of Ages gig, Sean landed the Ross Wilson solo tour to promote his 'Dark Side of the Man' album. This subsequently led to a stint in Mondo Rock, performing their latest release 'Why Fight It' as well as their extremely well known back catalogue. A highlight was a live televised event, Oz Music 90 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre performing to 19,000 people on the same bill as Crowded House & Kate Ceberano.
After the dissolution of Mondo Rock, Sean returned to full time studio session work, honing his skills to an even greater degree than before. After a working relationship that had lasted 10 years, Sean decided to try going it alone. Partnering with another local post production studio, he spent 4 years developing his contacts and skills in writing for the commercial medium. During this time he met Mark Trueack through a mutual friend and they began a song writing partnership that continues to this day.
Not getting enough self satisfaction out of a joint venture, Sean decided to open up his own facility and named it Timms Tunes. Situated initially above a video post production facility in Norwood South Australia, the studio quickly became the go-to place for top quality advertising and film music. It was during this time that Sean scored the music to 2 feature films, Spank & Selkie. Upon the relocation of the video post facility Timms Tunes was housed in 3 years later, it was decided that Timms Tunes could survive as an entity on it's own. Finding an old converted church just around the corner, Timms Tunes snapped up the building & began constructing the first of what was to become 3 suites.
Whenever time would allow, Sean & Mark would collaborate on more material for hopefully an eventual release. Their tastes although being similar, were far from identical, and this chemistry and co-operation would culminate in the release of the ' More Than a Dream' album. The album was a labour of love for both Mark & Sean and a lot of favours were called in to help make the project a success. The songs feature musical contributions from Con Delo, Brad Polain, Ian "Polly" Politis, Pat Schirippa and Timothy Sexton conducting the Adelaide Art Orchestra.
Sean continues to do well in the field of audio/music post production, composing numerous national TV and radio tracks for clients such as Bakers Delight, Mitsubishi, Mazda, BMW, Home Hardware and Wendys. He has also regularly worked as a composer for Disney and has scored music for many award winning short films including 'The Book Keeper' and 'Gargoyle', two highly acclaimed animated films produced by Anifex, written and directed by Michael Cusack.
Sean is also a member of 'The Rubberband', a covers band that includes some of Sean's interstate clients and friends, who perform mainly in and around the city of Melbourne, Victoria.
In his spare time Sean trains 3 - 4 times a week in Karate, runs his own Dojo and collects comics. He has also just married his partner of 2 and a 1/2 years, Amanda.
