About Me

Bobby Love is a living legend of Philadelphia Soul. The beginning of North Philly Soul. In the early 60's Bobby Love began his first boy band "The School Boys" who music historians claim was the first African American all male group every recorded in Rock & Roll history. He was often asked to stand-in during the performances of young teenage prodigy and soul crooner, Frankie Lymon. During his career, Bobby Love ventured into creating several soul groups in the 60's and 70's, one group the Ballads who created the hit single "This Is Magic" written and produced by Robert Irvin aka "Bobby Love" while just at the age of 21 helped create his mark in the music industry. His career took many turns yet making extraordinary music that has been liscensed to Philadelphia's own basketball team, the 76'ers in 1974 the theme song "I'm Gonna Love You" also written & produced by Robert Irvin. Other soul groups he lead, were the Soul Barrons, The School Boys and most recently the legendary North Philly group, The Informers. Not only did Bobby Love help create great "boy bands" he also created the legendary female group out of North Philadelphia, the Honey Bees which was a spin off from his already established group Free Spirit.Soul industry greats such as James Brown, The O'Jays, The Delfonics, and the Stylistics just to name a few amongst his peers during this time often paid him much respect for the contributions he has made in the soul music sector. In 1996 Bobby Love was honored by Philadelphia's B101 radio station gala event. Some of the guest who attended in his honor were, the Delfonics, James Brown relatives, and a host of other close famous friends and love ones. Night was delighted with a performance by Bobby Love featuring his oldest daughter Jeanette Johnson. He's also been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.Today Bobby Love can be seen and heard locally in and around the Philadelphia areas. He's currently recording and performing with The Informers.Music Archives is currently making plans to do a autobiography of Bobby Love's legacy and what he has contributed in the music industry. Directors and screenwriters are interviewing some of his childhood friends and musical friends/peers. There's talks in New York about this movie and the life of Bobby Love. Until then listen and enjoy this living soul legend and former Black Panther Bobby Love. There's more music, more live performances and more "Philly Soul" to come!Peace & Blessings
