//What...is your name?
- I go by Devix. I was told that Devi is the Supreme Goddess in Hinduism and takes many protecting warrior forms that have multiple arms and eyes. I thought it was fitting, but I didn't want to claim to be a goddess. I'm just a person, after all. So I added the X to emphasize that.
- To triumph over evil and protect people, of course! That's what a superhero should do. I know I'm not like a normal superhero and I don't have a vast array of powers, but I hope that using what I have to protect who I can still makes a world of difference.
- My main power is the ability to "grow" multiple copies of my own body parts off of solid surfaces like walls, tables, and even bodies, both my own and others', as well as off themselves to create chains of arms and the like. I can control these just as easily, if not moreso than my original body. My usual mediums are arms and eyes, which I can use to see further away, catch, climb, lift and restrain. A friend of mine said my power must be a mix of interdimensional matter manipulation and psionic control created by mutation, but I really don't understand it very well. I have found that I have higher than normal mental defenses from psychic intrusion, though, so I could say that that is a secondary power.
- I know it looks creepy using "phantom limbs", so I can understand if there are people who think I'm frightening. I actually use it to my advantage if the criminal is just as surprised and frightened of having their arms and legs suddenly restrained by arms on their body that aren't their own. I hope that regular citizens can look past the eerie nature of my abilities and realize that I'm using it to help them, not hurt them.
- ...You're not a spy, are you?
Haha. No, I understand. It's a perfectly legitimate question and the nature of my powers make it pretty easy to figure out anyway. First of all, any extra body parts I create are only as strong as my own body is and therefore I try to use more to balance the strength. I don't have superhuman strength from the beginning like most superheroes, and therefore I have to exercise and work out my arms to grow as a superhero in that regard. Safe to say, villians with superhuman strength are hard to restrain for long periods of time, if at all. Secondly, I can only use my powers on solid objects within my line of vision. I can use extra eyes to see further, but I can't just form an eye on the other side of a wall without being able to see inside the room beforehand. Thirdly, while any blows or strikes my phantom limbs sustain don't damage my real body and simply cause them to either sink into the surface they came from or fade away if they're cut off completely (they're solid inside and don't bleed), I can feel the pain inflicted on them until they disappear. Luckily I've had enough experience now that the sharp but quick pain doesn't bother me enough to distract me, so it's not really a "weakness" to me.
- That's a good question. Honestly I don't know, because I luckily haven't had the need to try it. Let's just hope that I never have to test your hypothesis, all right? ;)
- I can see how it might seem like both in a way, but I would without a doubt say I'm better suited for long-range combat, as I can hold my own in close combat for a little while, but I don't have the flexibility or stamina to keep it up as long as I'd like. Most of my strength is upper-body. My power grants me an extra bit of stealth in that I can hide and use extra eyes to keep my position a secret, and I use that to my advantage when I can.
I know you might ask why I even have a costume and put myself into the fray then, but there are two answers to that. First, I do use that method when I don't have time to change and can stay hidden in a crowd, but there are times when I wouldn't be able to see and therefore do anything unless I was closer to the action, making hiding an impossibility. I'm not a ninja. The second reason is that villians tend to like someone to focus on in a fight. If I didn't step forward, I believe there would be a higher chance that they would direct their attention on hostages or innocent bystanders. It's as simple as that.
- It's supposed to be a representation of the Crown Chakra, the symbol of ultimate consciousness and enlightenment in Hinduism. It was suggested to me by the same person who gave me my name.
- Haha, I could see where that might confuse people. One of the wonders of the Internet is that you need not show your face directly when speaking. At the moment I'm not in costume. It's hard to explain, but when I wear my costume I just feel more...confident. The speech just seems to be a side effect of that, I can't really help it. I know it sounds weird but that's the best way to describe the feeling. I hope it doesn't come across as crazy...but then again if it intimidates the bad guys I don't mind being called crazy, either. That's just called running with what works. ;)
- A secret, obviously! I'm very sorry, but I would rather not create more problems down the road. What I can tell you is that I'm really no one special. You wouldn't have heard of me anyway. I've been lucky to be surrounded by amazingly talented people, and only after getting my powers have I been able to say that I'm able to do something meaningful too.
- Yes, it's bound to happen when you have people you are really close to and trust with your life. My twin best friends, who gave me the name idea and helped me make my costume, and my significant other know. I couldn't keep it from them. I don't worry about saying that because I won't tell you who they are and I know they wouldn't give me away, either.
- Of course. I love music and singing especially. I currently can't play a more complex instrument than a tambourine, which may be a bit surprising, but I'm quite the sucker for karaoke. Other than that I enjoy browsing the Internet, but at this point who doesn't? ...And before you say anything, yes, I do on occasion use my powers to type. It's much cheaper than Bluetooth. ;)
