I am a Semazen or Whirling Dervish currently based in Vancouver Canada. My foundation lies in over a decade of combined studies in classical ballet, Hatha Yoga and West African dance.
I am also a Poet. Many years ago, I read the poetry of Rumi and fell into Sufism with a teacher from Istanbul. I then studied the Mevlevi Sema under Raqib Brian Burke of Open Secret School of Whirling and became a Semazen in Canada in 2002.
I went on pilgrimage to Istanbul, Turkey in 2004. It lasted four years.
Since 2005, I have performed in over 60 concerts in over 15 European countries as a Semazen with Turkish Electronic World Music group Mercan Dede. I have also given workshops in whirling as active meditation in Canada, France and Turkey.
