About Me

GEORGE/PRESTON/HERRETT is continuing to write new music and will be playing out a lot Spring Summer 2010! Next show is at Shakedown Street on Hillsborough St in Raleigh Sat Feb 27th. Hope to see you there! And go check out our new uploads on GEORGE/PRESTON/HERRETT on Myspace and Facebook.
KING/PRESTON recorded live at The Pinhook on July 8, 2009 ... those are the two tracks uploaded here (above). Dean King with lap top and Brian Preston with fretless bass and synthesizer. The tracks are 10 minute edits from the recording made by Ted Johnson of the 44 minute piece performed that evening in front of a very attentive, well behaved and generous audience. Thanks to Nick Slaton (of Slicnaton) for inviting us to play. It was cool and we hope to do it again.
Two new projects! As of June 2009!
A new improvisational fusion trio with Dave George on guitar and Darren Herrett on drums! George/Preston/Herrett, or GPH. Go to www.myspace.com/georgeprestonherrett "Springnut" is from a May recording session done here at Casa de Buddah recording studio. GPH has 2 shows upcoming in Chapel Hill, see above.
My other project is my dark ambient basscapes in a duo with Dean King on computer ambient, found sounds, beats (such as Swerve, Vector 9, Planck Time above). This duo was presented live for the first time on June 30 at The Pinhook in Durham (see above).
"Springnut" is from my new trio, GPH (recorded June 2009). "Swerve", "Vector 9", "Planck Time", and "Dwoddle and Lean" recorded in Feb-Mar 2009. Dean King contributes samples on Dweller and Planck Time.
Tuscan Rail ii and Xantham Crux are from 'Metaphoric Music 1986-1994'.
Metaphoric Music Productions (MMP) has been the vehicle for my releases since 1988 when FREEHAND recorded the album, 'thinking out loud' and released it on cassette. It was subsequently re-released on InEarVisions in 1997 with a full 16 page booklet (now available only in its 3rd run with a simple single fold insert). Go to www.myspace.com.freehandprogrock.
Since 1997 I have released 5 other albums (see below.) I am the bass player and writer or co-writer in all the bands on the metaphoric label (so far.) That's my 6 string fretless bass your looking at with trees reflecting on it. Check out more at the metaphoric music web site www.metaphoricmusic.net and purchase CDs on line at CDBABY.com.
