About Me

The Story So Far.......1976, Punk Rock lives and glam rock is officially dead. That most glorious yet ridiculed movement of the early 70's is finally confined to the history books. In Scotland, Ayr to be precise 'Lord' Larry Loowrecks is holed up in a squat with 20,000 copies of his band's farewell album for company and heat, (vinyl burns real good). He is a beaten man, his dream of glam rock stardom is shattered. After five years and three albums his band 'The Glam Kidz' are finished. Early critical acclaim, but no sales for their debut album 'We Are The Fairies On Yer Cake' was closely followed by no critical acclaim and no sales for the follow up 'All That Glitters In Not Shit', hence the 20,000 copies of their third and (some say) best album 'Stomp Yer Nutz'. 'Lord' Larry would take rejection hard, disappearing for 25 years before a kindly social worker started to work on his reintegration into society. At the time 'Lord' Larry still had high hopes of ruling the glam rock world. His only real competition in Scotland were a bunch of foppish-blouse-wearing ne'erdowells from Glasgow who went by the name of 'The Starry Eyed Glitter Boyz'. They were lead by the spandex and featherboa wearing Cosmic Rock. They too had a couple of albums out, 'Oo You Calling a Poof?' And its follow up 'Gonna Save Your (Platform) Soles'. Neither set the chart alight, and in 1976 Cosmic Rock could see the writing on the wall, firing his first drummer Terry Tinsel and bass player 'Glamorous' Dougie McCutcheon he brought in a couple of youngsters barely able to play their instruments, and changed the band name to 'The Shithouse'. This was a sad attempt to bandwagon the burgeoning punk scene and their album 'You're Shit, I'm Shit, We're All Shit' was famously reviewed in the NME with the two words 'It's Shit'. The single from it 'I'm a Punk An' I'm Gonna Smash You in the Mouth' was so obviously out of touch with the scene that it sold only 62 copies 'The Shithouse' were dropped and Comic Rock fled to Amsterdam where for the next twenty-five years he would make rock themed 'Cosmic' cookies.1979 and the 'New Wave of British Heavy Metal' is the latest industry led music scene fad, desperate to prise the greenbacks from the kids' grubby hands. 'Steel Virgin' a mix of New Wave of British Heavy Metal and Salsa music are nothing special and would split up in disarray after their only album (never actually released) is recorded. The album was to be called 'We're Gonna Rock Your Mind's, We're Gonna F@c$ Your Daughters' The band are inept and would generally would not warrant any mention at all in any serious overview of 70's music but for one man, their drummer Boozy Quatro (no relation). Boozy is his real name, Christened by his alcoholic father as a joke shortly before succumbing to sclerosis of the liver. His mother (a nun) took nothing to do with Boozy or his father after what she claimed to be his 'virgin' birth. Ironic then that his first band would be 'Steel Virgin'. Boozy's career over the next twenty or so years takes in 321 bands, all instantly forgettable.Fast forward to 2001, 'Lord' Larry has finally come out of hibernation thanx to his social worker Stuart Dogood (real name) and his relentless cajoling. On one of these outings to a local supermarket, a new brand of biscuits are being tried with the brand's owner on a 'meet and greet'. The owner? A certain Cosmic Rock or for the purposes of running a biscuit company 'Mister Jasper St. Cuthbert'. The two instantly recognise each other, and after much catching up over tea and biscuits, the pair decide that the time is right for a Glam Rock revival of seismic proportion. Things are quickly put in place, Cosmic finances new equipment and even rescues 'Lord' Larry's favourite and trusty Rickenbacker 4001 bass from the local cash converters, where it has been in and out many times in the prevailing years. Songs are decided upon. They quite rightly forego any of their own in favour of the classics of the day. They have one problem, no serious drummer will touch the pair, long regarded as has been's, never were's and losers depending on who you talk to. 'Lord' Larry suggests one man with absolutely no pride or dignity, currently playing in his three hundred and twenty first band. 'The Kidney Disturbers' - a twenty-two piece blues outfit playing to no-one in particular. 'Lord' Larry and Cosmic offer Boozy their vacant drum stool and promise him some honest work. Boozy, hungry for beer tokens, bites their hands off. Not literally of course, this time. Boozy had previously cemented his reputation as 'out there' by biting the hand off Steve Goldcock, singer with Boozy's one-hundred-and-eighty-first band 'The Tippy Tappers'. Legend has it that Steve tried to prize a half empty bottle of JD from a drunk and slumbering Boozy only to have his hand bitten off in the ensuing struggle. Steve never sang again, unable to hold a microphone he slipped into Scottish folklore as 'Wan Hand Stevie'The three men decide that if this is going to work, they need a bit of youth, glamour and femininity in the band. The only chick up for the gig is an ex-biker who just happened to be married to Cosmic Rock, not wishing to be known as 'Mrs Rock', she assumed the name of 'The Glamstar', for obvious reasons to anyone who has seen the band. The Glamstar's history is as chequered as her three band mates. Expelled from 19 different schools for practising her proto tattooing skills on her fellow pupils, she left home at fifteen and travelled to Germany, gaining work as a tattoo artist in Hamburg. This didn't last long as all her work was in English as she 'don't speak no German, no way, no how'. The Germans took offence at waking after a drunken night with an English tattoo. Eventually The Glamstar was ran out of Hamburg. She didn't run far, just across the border to Holland where she first met Cosmic Rock, plying his cookie trade. Maybe it was something in the cookies, but when their eyes met across a haze filled Amsterdam coffee shop, it was love at first sight. They've been together ever since, The Glamstar's enthusiasm and never say die spirit is essential to Electric Warrior. Were she not in the band, chances are the world weary, seen-it-all-done-it-all cynicism of the other three would mean that nothing ever got done. This is the official Electric Warrior MySpace page.
