Slammer

About Me

There were 2 Slammers in the late 80's one from Manchester and one from Bradford. According to Rockdetector A-Z of Thrash Metal, the most definitive guide to the genre, the Bradford Slammer debuted with the Controlled Chaos demo and went on to get signed by Warner Brothers. The full force of the record company was brought to bear on our Mancunian heroes and they were warned to stop using the name. This effectively killed the band. But we are here to state that the Controlled Chaos demo was in fact recorded by Slammer Manchester. So just a typo? or were the Bradford boys signed on the strength of this demo! Steve Owens and Rob Ryan went on to form Dearly Beheaded who released 2 highly acclaimed albums in the mid 90's. Slammers first gig was early 1987 and 20 years later there are plans to finally record the songs which never made it to vinyl....heres hoping.
The band did several recordings in the late 80's which never saw the light of day. They recorded a track The First Thing for Ebony Records which was due to go on a UK Thrash compilation album. After the track was recorded the price of £250 for recording was presented to the band, the very skint mancunians knew at that point it would never see the light of day, it might as well have been £2500 for all the cash they had, another lost opportunity. Bob and Mark had hitch hiked to and from the studio as well, as the one car owned by the band had to accomodate the gear and the other 3 members! Bad News? you better believe it.
Well its finally happening, we are recording some old tunes of which you have a preview on this site. John has put down the rhythm tracks on 3 songs plus solos on all 3, Steve (Oz) has just played rhythm guitar on The First Thing, Hayden (CGAS) has contributed solos to both the songs on the site and Neil (Coops) from The Sanderson Pitch has also contributed on the same track as Oz. Alan and Mark are due to record Vocals and Bass very soon and we are planning to cover the mighty Armored Saint's track Mutiny on the World which we covered in the 80's. The tracks on the site are works in progress with just drums and guitars and a test vocal on Deal in Death, as soon as the songs are completed we will upload them. We are also recording a lengthy instrumental written by John and Neil Cooper who is also doing all the recording, production and mixing. Nostalgia, it gets to us all in the end. Lyrics
