Estes, naturalmente, haveriam de cessar funções... Curiosamente, a oportunidade de edição de um EP pela Universal, surgiu da vitória dos ainda Fluid, no concurso do portal Underportugal.com. O disco viria a ser gravado em Março de 2003 e seria produzido por Marsten Bailey. Em Setembro do mesmo ano é lançado o EP "Chasm" - Surpresa das surpresas, o single "Summon Up" lidera o top de vendas de singles entre 9 e 23 de Outubro. Rock. Alternativo. Bem definido na sua carga emocional e na sua densidade, o som dos Waïl não possui ainda, por outro lado, aspectos que o possam diferenciar, verdadeiramente; facilmente se percebe que são apenas os primeiros três temas. Há variação, há uma vontade firme da banda em não se deixar fixar em parâmetros estéticos demasiado estereotipados. Há vontade e já conseguem. O som é intenso, cru, privilegiando-se a criação de ambientes sonoros fortes, esteticamente agradáveis. Por onde andam? Seria interessante saber para onde vão. .............................. WaiL is a band formed following the end of FLUiD, José Julio Santos (vocals) and Pedro Gil (bass guitar) were to be joined by José Baetas (drums) and Luis Tiago (guitar). Still as FLUiD and supported by a large number of live shows in many of the principal musical venues in Portugal they won several contests, the last of which – UnderPortugal.com in April 2002 – gaving them a record deal with Universal Music – Portugal and the possibility to record their first work. To start working on their debut already under the WaiL moniker, they chose Marsten Bailey to produce and record what would become "Chasm", which was completed in March 2003. Following the recordings, Luis Tiago left waïl. Replaced by Nuno Santos around June and after rehearsing for a couple of weeks, WaiL went on a promotional tour with their intense and mystical rock songs and emotional live performances. "Chasm" was officially released on September the 8th that year, entering at 4th place of the Portugal-Top 20 Singles Chart by 2003-09-25, then 2nd by 2003-10-02 and 1st by 2003-10-09. By the Summer of 2004 and after a couple of months writing songs for the follow up to "Chasm" WaiL went to studio to record "Molecule", a string of much more complex songs that put WaiL on a new level. After the recordings and in a run of bad luck for WaiL, Nuno Santos was keen to go and live in London, leaving WaiL without guitar player once again. With a new record but missing one of its key elements, WaiL spent a couple of months auditioning guitar players to fill in and finally found Fred. 2005 and 2006 were completelly dedicated to songwriting culminating in the recording of "The Brutal Art Of Lying" during the last 3 months of 2006.
