Bill Adair

About Me

Bill Adair is an accomplished singer/songwriter based in Glasgow, Scotland, who has worked with the likes of Jorma Kaukonen (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tune) and Rory Block. Equally at home playing blues from the Mississippi Delta or singing a traditional ballad, Bill has developed his own distinctive sound with his rich baritone voice and carefully crafted guitar picking. His original material draws on influences from traditional Piedmont and Delta Blues, and from contemporary writers and players like Ralph McTell, Stefan Grossman and Eric Bibb. ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ****Bill is in constant demand as a solo singer at festivals and folk clubs throughout the UK, and has gained a reputation as an innovative interpreter not only of blues but also the works of Burns, re-working and stripping back the original, familiar melodies to something which has more in common with the Delta cotton fields than the Ayrshire corn rigs. ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ****Bill’s debut CD, ‘Along The Miners’ Rows’, is available from Sad Jeb Music SJM001. The CD, released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Auchengeich Mining Disaster, features a range of new songs written by Bill including ‘Along The Miners’ Rows’ and ‘The Day That All The Lights Went Out’, as well as to two fiddle tunes, ‘Jean Murray Ballantyne’, a slow air written by Bill, and a guitar arrangement of the beautiful O’Carrolan tune ‘Blind Mary’. ‘Along The Miners’ Rows’ was recorded at The Tolbooth Theatre Studios in Stirling and features Bill on guitar and vocals, along with Tim Binney (fiddle and vocals), Barbara Burns (piano), Ian Cleland (bass), Avril Cleland (whistle) and Delia O’Hagan (vocals). The CD was released on 20th September 2008 by Sad Jeb Music SJM0001 and is available from Sad Jeb Music, PO Box 29968, Glasgow G67 9DJ, or from Foot Stompin Celtic Music at www.footstompin.com. The CD costs £11.99 plus £1.15 p&p. ************************************************************ ************************************************************ **** ‘These affecting songs summon up and celebrate the rich cultural history of central Scotland's now-vanished mining communities, while leaving no doubt as to the toll the industry extracted from its workers and their dependants.’ The Sunday Herald. ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ****Bill can be contacted by email on [email protected]. ************************************************************ ************************************************************ ****
