In club land, it's not just about the venue, decor or the crowd, but more about which DJ moves you that determines your experience as a memorable night out... and Jayse Knipe is a master at this.
When it comes to festivals, Jayse Knipe has rocked the house there as well. He performed for six consecutive years in the Boiler Room at the Big Day Out (1996-2002) alongside the likes of electronic music heavyweights The Chemical Brothers, Underworld and Bassment Jaxx.. He also headlined at the Coca Cola Redfest Olympic Games Kick Off Party on the Rhythmic Visions stage at Vodafone Arena in 2000 which incorporated live musicians, percussionists, dancers, fire twirlers and other talented performers.Jayse's passion, enthusiasm and ability to showcase a diverse range of tunes, in turn providing a memorable experience, is what ultimately makes him a standout DJ. Quite impressive when at the end of a set the crowd is screaming for more! His mission is and continues to be "to open people's minds to the various dance sounds which are being played all over, and to therefore deconstruct the stereotypes which we seem to place on things so as to help us identify with particular subjects, because sometimes you cannot 'intellectualise' and stereotype something like music - you can only feel it". Jayse is like a camera, filtering, identifying and capturing sounds which make us feel good on the floor, and interpreting them through his own distinctive and infectious style.Jayse is also a man of many other talents. For two years he was editorial director of a small Melbourne dance culture magazine called Listen Up which ran through Try Youth and Community Services. And for more than seven years Jayse kept us entertained on the air waves each week on Melbourne's Kiss FM with his night time radio show Listen Up, whilst also having completed a course covering all aspects of radio announcing at the Gary Mac School of Radio.
Jayse has worked extensively behind the dance scene with his various remix, production and other industry work. He has produced three mixed CDs; Double CD DJ Excursions Volume 2 - Jayse Knipe presents Diversatility, the Ministry of Sound 1998 tour CD, of which he was chosen to tour nationally with, and Elastic a double CD mixed by Jayse and Sydney DJ Sveta (through Universal Music's dance label Hyperion), which proved to be a treat for many tech house fanatics.On top of this, Jayse spends alot of time in the studio producing original work as well as collaborating with other producers and vocalists. His studio work includes a remix of Tomcraft's Loneliness under the guise of Aspekt (with CJ Dolan of Quench fame) and as well as a remix of Bitter Desire by 80's band Kids in the Kitchen produced for the Countdown 2006 Tour CD and also under the guise of soul:r with long term friend, Christian Silva of Bad Boys Batucada and Dirty Laundry infamy.Still one of the eminent DJs in the dance music scene today, Jayse currently plays special guest spots around Melbourne. Currently you can find him doing what he does best each Saturday night at Circus in Melbourne's famous Commercial Road.
