Always describing himself as a “trying entertainer,†Ruel “Chilla†Clarke has dedicated most of his life to “trying to entertain the crowd†whether it be as a singer, a musician, or more recently, as a producer. With the 2007 release of the ‘Deep Love’ Rhythm, Chilla is taking his extensive career to the next level under the newly established Chilla Music label.
With upcoming roots Reggae artists Cutty Corn, Ras Fraser Jr., Torch, Danjah, Flava, and Lion King in his corner, Chilla Music sets out to promote the more positive and uplifting characteristics of Reggae/Dancehall music and culture. The ‘Deep Love’ Rhythm, his latest production project under the newly established label has taken the world by storm, featuring cultural artists Natural Black, Bush Man, Lutan Fyah, and Norris Man, along with Cutty Corn, Ras Fraser Jr., Torch, Easy Wayne, Cassafaya, Million Teeth, and Danjah. ‘Deep Love,’ released in April 2007, received heavy airplay on Irie FM, Roots FM and Hitz92 FM in Jamaica. More recently, Deep Love hit the overseas market with airplay on Royal Radio, Red Hot Radio, Quality Internet Radio, and Waah Gwan Radio in New York, WRFG radio in Atlanta, and Stadsradio Helmond in the Netherlands. Chilla Music plans to release a couple of one-drop Reggae Rhythms in 2008.
Like many of Jamaica’s greatest entertainers and musicians, Ruel Anthony Clarke grew up in the tough but talented Waterhouse neighborhood in Kingston, JA. He began playing the guitar and singing with local bands as a young man, working with Don Carlos and Lloyd Parks among many others. He released several singles as a solo artist including the cover songs “Dream Lover,†“Hey Little Girl,†and “Just a Mirage†with multi-platinum selling artist Shaggy.
