About Me

Geoff Oakes is a great sounding tenor player who likes to have lots of fun in all situations. He can sing, tell Irish jokes and be comfortable in his own skin but "Do not poke the bear" too hard! All round soulful player with his own hair and teeth. His playing can be heard on many recordings and TV tracks throughout Europe and Australia. At this time living in S E Asia working with various bands and having a ball. A bio would take too long but always open to new challenges anywhere in the world. For a full bio you need to meet him in the flesh over a few "cool ones" or after a gig somewhere. He will prattle on about how he loves his three children or his his last fishing trip. He might tell you about playing to the G'I's in Thailand after the Tet offensive, sitting in with Red Norvo and Ruby Braff, playing the blues with Geoge Wein, listening to Howard play at Coleman's funeral on the West side, talking about bacon and Australia with Thelonious Monk over the white Steinway, pulling a great chick in the village, touring with Renee Geyer, how he loves the Maroi and indigenous people of Australia and NZ.etc etc...go to www.geoffoakesmusic.com or better still, arrange to spend some musical time with him cause the Bio is silly. Thanks to Garry Cowling for putting this all up for me. The tracks you can hear on this site are a bunch of original ideas. All parts written and played by Geoff Oakes and Lindsey Askew with the exception of John Williams (piano) Peter Cross on flgl (Born to steal) and Gary Cowling bass. Ray Aldridge also wrote and played piano on (Late night outa Town). If you hear any potential in this stuff, let me know.
