About Me

Born in Guinea, West Africa of a Senegalese mother and a Motown-loving father, N'DEYE grew up fascinated by the American entertainment culture. Madonna, «Fame» or the movie «Flashdance» among others gave her the dream of one day becoming a performer herself. The coming to Paris, in 1984, of the then internationally renowned «Amazones de Guinee»,received by her parents, made her an insider to the music life and confirmed the burgeoning artist into her choosen path. But in a culture in which singing is reserved to the «Djeli», a lower cast in charge of entertaining the nobility, she is expressly forbidden to even think of it as a possible career. It's only once in NY, after the tragic death of a childhood friend, that N'DEYE will have the courage to make her dream come true.At first shyly, singing back up for different projects (Razia Said & The African Funk Band, Christina) then more and more confidently, defining through her sensitive writing a very personal mix of Hip Hop and Pop _ «Hip-Pop»_ with African accents («Morenita») under the wing of Isaac Mouguen Ndom.Going back to Guinea in early 2005 N'DEYE was blessed to encounter and work with one of the biggest names in West Africa's music, Sekou Bembeya Diabate, of the famed Bembeya Jazz National, called «Diamond fingers» for his incredible guitar skills. He arranged and played on her experimental project, «Les Maitres de la Parole» («The Masters of Words»), a tribute to those «Djeli» whose «words-power» remind us of today's urban poets. Taking hip hop techniques such as sampling and remixing already existing music to another level, "Les Maitres de la Parole" sees N'DEYE actually redoing entire songs (among which the famous Bembeya ode to the legendary african genie- mermaid "Mamie Wata", a hit in her native Guinea thanks to a new and cinematographic approach to the video for the song) of the Guinean Repertoire while injecting them with a modern twist such as rapping."Nanfoulen", the second single of the album is also a hit (No 1 of Radio Nostalgie Guinea).N'DEYE is now working on brand new songs, some of them bringing back an old school flava both in the sound ("TASTY", a cheeky-sassy anthem that all girls can be in the mood for sometimes) and in her lyrics (upcoming "Stance of a Misfit") which remind us that hip hop was at first socially conscious/////////////////////////////////////////////////// ////////////////////////////////////////Nee en Guinee d'une Saint-louisienne bon teint et d'un feru de la Motown, N'Deye grandit fascinee par la culture du divertissement americain, l'"entertainment industry".
