About Me

Maceo Campbell is a veteran of the rock music scene and the "hippie" scene since the golden age of the late 60's. Unlike many of his fellow baby boomers Maceo has kept it fresh and alive while maintaining the vitality of the Golden Age. Many or maybe most of Maceo's current friends and companions are young people who both learn from Maceo & enrich his life and path. Maceo finds it invigorating to be alive in the moment and a part of the growing consciousness of people building a better world and realizing that we truly are all one. Maceo has performed, written or worked with some of the biggest names in Rock history: Jimi Hendrix, Frank Zappa, David Crosby, Alice Copper, John Phillips, and many many more. Maceo is immersed in the current scene both as a continuing singer, musician, songwriter and has moved into management recently. Maceo is personal manager to Kim Manning (check her out on myspace.com/kimmanning) aka/Peaches of Flavor of Love. Kim is a phenomenon in her own right as a featured vocalist with George Clinton & P/Funk as well as a fast coming artist of her own powerful material. As Robert the music Spy once said in a revue: "Manning & Campbell have obviously formed a very cool Baby Boomer/Gen-Y friendship that bodes well for the future of music."On the performing side Maceo plays Guitar, Keyboards, Percussion as well as sings, writes, produces, and organizes concerts, festivals & community based tribal events. Maceo was the main producer for a series of L.A. based JamBand/Hippie type festivals that completely disproved to notion that "it couldn't be done i the 80's." Maceo's own excellent band, Peace Warrior (myspace.com/peacewarrior), is made up of an eclectic tribe ranging in age from 28 to 57 years old. It has men & women and a diverse line-up on instruments that are both familiar and innovative.Maceo is aften viewed as "the Big Brother of the New Hippies" or "The Black Jerry Garcia" by those who know him and spend time with him in his many endeavors.Maceo's writing style can be likened to his many influences through his liofe & times including: Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, Joni Mitchell, Santana, Yes, Miles Davis, Sam Cooke, The Beatles, James Brown, George Clinton, Aretha Franklin, John Coltrane, The Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jackie Wilson, and other's who were intense & innovative while keeping a communal sense in the music & it's presentation.
