Pirates Anthem
Pirates Anthem was started in 2007 by Bristol Dj / Producers Task & Bear. The label was originally started as an outlet for the mashup's and booty's Task & bear had made over the years. As time progressed Pirates Anthem expanded with two new members Justin Reverb (wraparound sounds) & DJ Cheeba (Detectives of Perspective & Solid Steel) which changed the dynamic of the label.

Pirates Anthem started remixing more and more Bristol artists and writing original material, it made sense to start both a physical and a digital label to get the Pirates sound out to the masses. Many Worldwide Ninjatune tours taught Task & bear that they can get away with almost anything in the right context and the label's sound shows this in its diversity, while keeping the dance floor rocking.

We are a group of Producers, Writers & DJs that have been moving dancefloors since 1988 and have studio experience back to 1986.We are tightly integrated with Dub From Atlantis and plan to make heavy breakbeat versions of the Dub From Atlantis originals. We also release heavy weight mashups for club use, some of which we give away free from the Pirates Anthem Website
We now play in various forms using vinyl, Serato & digital turntablism so that we can expand what we play & what we do. Demonstrated recently by Cheeba & Task's 4 Deck Serato Mayhem at the April 08 Solid Steel session. Not forgetting Glastonbury festival backstage Jazz on Sunday night with bear dropping classics to make your mind melt before we were joined by the Detectives for a right old knees up..
Our musical travels have taken us on many sorties into Europe, USA & Canada. Our studio projects include works with Way out west "Ajare", Capoeira twins huge bass monster "4X4", as well as with bands Pressplay, Dub From Atlantis & Many more. Task & Bear were also founding members of the "Men from Atlantis" with releases on Hombre records. As well as house and breakbeat releases in Japan & for future Radio.
Task & Bear were Ninjatune tour DJs for many years and took their 3 deck style to many a dancefloor, Cheeba and Task are still tightly linked with Ninjatune through the solid steel Radio shows and Detectives night at Timbuk2. Cheeba is also internationally known off his own back having recently toured Iceland & many European Festivals.
Our main aim is to play as much of our own music as possible when we play out, Were still not afraid to drop even the cheesiest of tunes in the right context and have always been able to get away with murder :) Who knows what stupid shit we will drop on you like a ton of bricks....
2008 came in with a bang and we plan to make this our year, current studio projects include a remix for the dragons with scott mckenzie, continued song arrangement with Pressplay, more remixes for dub from atlantis & ccq, a new sister project called Chillder that Bear has written (got to hear this, its really trippy) and most importantly, pirates anthem mashups and releases.
ATTN: Promoters. Please do not list Task or Bear as Ninjatune DJ's. Yes we used to work with Ninja but no longer do so and dont want to offend them.

Latest News

September 2008: Some people been in touch recently asking if we have stopped! Well i can honestly say we have been crazy busy over the summer. Although we haven't released any new music or mashups we have been busy splitting the label into two. Pirates booty is now complete and i will put this online in a couple of weeks. Firstly though, i am off to Greece for some well earned rest.

After rocking the parlure at beautiful days festival on Saturday night, Task has been offered a residency for pussy parlure next season. So expect some block rocking sets at Glastonbury, Electric picnic and more. Task has also completed his remixes of Dub From Atlantis - Heavy Weather and Pressplay - Lonely Dissolve, Theres also a rumor of an album in progress? Also, bear is writing a new Task & Bear track which i heard over the phone and is sounding nutz! come on.

If that wasn't enough, then cheeba has topped us all by becoming DJ Food & Coldcut's world tour support DJ after killing it at Camden Palace.

Giving up? I don't think so....

June 2008: Some seriously awesome things going on in the land of the pirates. Glastonbury was rocking, we played dance stage east on Sunday afternoon then went til 6 am in silent world, with a killer set and proper hands in the air business. We had a really good time and cant wait for the next one... Other summer festies in the pipeline but nothing confirmed yet, Ill keep you posted.
Were on the change here sorting out the new label and are in the process of designing logos, websites etc. We have 2 new artists signing which I will reveal in the next update. We've been well hectic this last month so no new freebies for you but hold tight, lots coming soon.

May 2008: What can we say, may has been crazy! 10 gigs for the pirates including some heavy 3/4 deck session from cheeba & task supporting Anti Pop Consortium and at We Like to Party. Lots going on in pirate towers including new tunes on the go and mashups for your listening pleasure. We are also working on digital distribution to get our works out worldwide. We have also been booked to play Dance Stage East & Silent World @ Glastonbury Festival, hopefully it'll be sunny this year.

April 2008 and things are really picking up. Our CCQ remix is going out on rinseproof records, we released 2 remixes on our website and updated the site to allow for promo only tracks. Our original works are selling well through beatsdigital.com and we got to number 2 in the breakbeat charts with billion dollar breaks & Hickory Jack going to number 1 in the dub/reggae chart.

We are picking up many bookings now with the Pirates playing 10 gigs in may including Supporting Alice Russell (task: my favorite vocalist) @ SpiegelTent Brighton. Not forgetting the huge detectives night in may with Coldcut & Roots Manuva celebrating Solid Steels 20th Birthday! Cheeba has also been getting rave reviews for his latest Solid Steel mix and is going to perform it live.

March 2008 was a busy month, we released Bear's 'Got The Power' mashup and completed both our remixes of Public Enemy's 'Bring The Noise' and Joe Budden's 'Pump It Up'. Both will be released in early April.

We also started our own digital label and have released our original works through, beatsdigital.com, chemical-records.co.uk and digital-tunes.net. We have other sites coming online in the next few weeks. We are also looking into starting our physical label and plan to release both 12" and 7" records by the summer.

Gigwise things are picking up, with a rocking set after Coldcut @ DOP's Solid Steel, and Cheeba & Task doing the first of many 3/4 deck sets now we have 2 Rane TTM57SL's in the crew. Watch out for some crazy tricknology that will keep the dance floor rocking...

And last but not least, we welcome a new member to the family, Congratulations to bear!

February 2008 was a good month. We completed the dragons remix with Scott Mckenzie, Completed the CCQ remix of 'Robbin Da Hood' and have worked on 3 new mashups. We also performed our first gig as pirates anthem @ break!!! at the blue mountain club as well as many other individual gigs.

Cheeba finished his latest solid steel radio show, which is insane and getting great reviews. We also started a facebook group

We are looking at starting our own digital label. We plan to release all our own material through the main digital download sites, but don't worry we still plan to give away at least 100 copies of each track through the website, and mashups will always be free.

January 2008 was a productive month for us. We released 3 tracks on the Pirates Anthem Website which has been updated with more detail and a flash mp3 player so you can preview the tracks before downloading.

We mixed the first Chillder track (A stringappella remix of Dub From Atlantis's latest single 'Heavy Weather'), which we will release in February. We also wrote a Mary J Blige remix of her classic track 'Be Happy', this still needs a little tweaking but we plan to release this soon.

Cheeba has almost finished his 2nd solid steel outing and Justin is working on a new mashup/remix and also going to remix Task & Bears 'Billion Dollar Breaks' which has also become the title theme to Ian Pirrie's new film. Bear has 2 new mashup's in the pipeline & is also continuing his Chillder project, While Task remixed the Dragons track 'Treasure' with Scott mckenzie and has started a remix of CCQ's track 'Robbin Da Hood'.

Sounds Like: Block rocking dance floor chaos! If we think we can get away with it, We’ll drop it.
