A couple of young lads who were spoiling the summer of '06 on getting drunk in and around the 4AD decided that maybe they should do something constructive with all these instruments they had stored in their attic. In a sober moment (or was it a drunk moment?) stein, anthony, arne or another person sitting in the 4AD came up with the idea to put all the instruments together, connect them to amplifiers and listen to what happens.
after listening very carefully for a couple of hours the young lads all came to the conclusion that the sound wasn't very...hearable. Then Zjef, the one who had never touched a bassguitar before putting the wire into the bass-amplifier of the 4AD-rehearsel-bunkers, had a vision. In his vision he saw what he himself called a band, and that band had like....the same instruments...like the young lads had...and...they were like making this most amazing sound by just touching the strings of their guitars and slamming with sticks on the drums and stuff....
so it came to pass that the young lads started to do what some other people came to know as "playing music" or some other english word-construction I can't pronounce. And this was the story of "the Merricks".
The problem is that none of the band members really know what happened, this is just a story made up to fill in all the gaps of our memory cause of the bloody alcohol.
the only thing the Merricks know is that every weekend they have a voice in their head who says.....home is where the 4AD is!

where the name came from:
"The Merricks" comes from the name of a character in an old movie, "The elephant man" (very cool movie). The elephant man is a man....and he has a name. his words were: "My....tschhh....name...tschhh...is...tschhh...john MERRICK...!
and now we are called "the merricks", do you get it?
