Situation Six

About Me

Born from a need to create something new and innovative, Situation Six arose in late 2006. Damien Smith, accomplished drummer and guitarist, called upon the various talents of producer and saxophonist Chi Austin, and together they began to explore various musical avenues. Wanting to escape the confines of synthesized instrumentation, the duo decided to expand the project bringing in the killer chops and arranging prowess of trumpet player Nic Chaffee. Following the completion several compositions, Jose Ramirez, long time friend of Smith and Austin, was brought into the fold adding his technical agility and raw funk on bass. The rhythm section was rounded off with the amazing Dan Davis ..board and the creative ear of Daniel Ramirez on guitar. Situation Six, due to their high level of musicianship and creative compositions, is able to blend Jazz, Funk, and Fusion in a way that is totally unique. Calling upon influences ranging from Stevie Wonder, Sly, and the Family Stone to Miles Davis and Buckshot Le Funk, the band has put a new spin on instrumental music. Combining thoughtful arrangements, with space to improvise, the sound of Situation Six is classic yet explosive. A mere five months after forming, Situation Six recorded their first album, 3/Thirteen. Channeling the recording sessions of old, this album was recorded live with no overdubs. The album was featured on CD Baby’s cover page and received this review:“This album is packed so full of grooves it's bursting at the seams (and, in the interest of full disclosure, the tracks all boast sufficiently beefy running times). As their name somewhat implies, there are six players in this group. Alto sax and trumpet lead the way, floating over the top of the tightly knit grooves provided by the bass and drums. This leaves the guitar and keys free to tastefully interject when the time is ripe, and they make the most of it. Each of the players is given ample time to showcase their solo skills as well (as wonderfully exemplified by the drum work on "View From San Pedro"), and they each pull it off with a calculated sensibility. Overall, the most impressive element here may be the fact that this was recorded live in the studio. It's great to hear the musicians fall into a groove and ride it all the way out, feeding off one another and progressively building the songs together.”Armed with an arsenal of new material to compliment the impressive 3/Thirteen and a live show that will captivate audiences of any genre, Situation Six is looking to make its mark on the entertainment industry. Situation Six wants to bring their brand to movies, television, major concert events, and more intimate venues around the world. For booking, contact Ashley of Situation Six Management: [email protected]; (310) 498-9089br
