Originally, Apheresis was a project of Steven Kalan, which started under his own name. THe name Apheresis was made after hiring another member (Alan). After he quit, the name was kept and Steven remained solo for a short while, before recruiting Frans Yrjö Leo Aalto (of METAL GUYZ, Chaos Infinitum, Old school Blast, etc.) and Tatevik Seyranyan as vocalists. It was then realized that there was not much work getting done with the project at all, and Steven decided to put the name on hold.
Apheresis is, as of January 2010, a duo project consisting of Steven Kalan and Shawn Emerson, both known for their solo projects as well as their other project, Shitting Dick Nipples. While SDN will be the project for their strictly offensive death/grind songs, Apheresis will cater to their serious music.
