About Me

Rocketdyne, now known as the Santa Susanna Field Laboratory, is located just above the rolling rocks of Simi Valley, California (about 30 miles west of Hollywood). Simi Valley is home to the worst uncontained nuclear meltdown in history. It was an estimated 240 times the radiation release of the 3-Mile Island accident. There was no containment dome to protect the environment from the nuclear radiation.

It first happened on July 13th, 1959. There was another meltdown again in 1964, and two more after that! It was an experimental sodium reactor. Nuclear radiation seeped into the earth and was bled into the sky for over two weeks. This was all kept secret for nearly 20 years. In 1979, it was briefly brought to the attention of the media, with out much recourse. It surfaced again in 1986 and once more in 1989 when hundreds of employees and residents filed lawsuits upon contracting lymphnode and epidermal cancers. Despite all this, the majority of Simi Valley residents live in the area without knowledge of the dangers nearby.
Years of UCLA studies have found radioactive elements in Simi Valley. The municipal drinking water is mixed with underground sources. A large number of these wells contain contaminants when tested. In the soil adjacent to Rocketdyne there have been test's done indicating high levels of Strontium-90 and Arsenic, yet the Simi Valley City Council and DHS have deemed the land Safe. Since last year KB home, the fifth largest home builder in the U.S., has had plans to develop an area known as Runkle Canyon. Runkle Canyon is about a mile West of the Nuclear site. Simi Valley's City Council approved Runkle Canyon for development! This decision was made based largely on soil tests that were over seen by KB Home. The soil tests provided helped KB Home claim the land was safe, contrary to soil samples that were already taken before the property was sold that had already proved the Land was infact Contaminated.
When KB HOME goes through with their plan to build on this land, it will effect everyone in the surrounding communities, a direct concern to those living in the Simi Valley and Chatsworth area's. Construction will release over one-hundred tons of dust laced with Strontium 90 and other dangerous Nuclear elements into the air we breathe. Literally covering, falling down on the surrounding communities within a 60 mile radius: Burbank, Hollywood, the valleys, and through out Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
The EPA has already stated the facts, but state agencies have taken decades to address the matter. The Dept. of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) has not been giving straight answers when questioned directly, and has not been quick to answer the public's concern.
Help to stop KB Home from building! This will be California's time bomb if they build! Stop these people from threatening thousands of lives!

Mankind for centuries to come will be affected by this Nuclear radiation. Some elements stay radioactive for up to 24,000 years. We can help push for a proper EPA cleanup of Rocketdyne.
