About Me

I was born in London in the closing moments of the 1950s, October 1959 to be precise and although you would never know it from my name, I am in fact half Spanish. My Father was from Jerez region in southern Spain and my Mother was a professional Flamenco Dancer.

Spain, its music and its culture has therefore always been a very important part of my life and although for most of my life I have lived in England; in my heart I feel I am Spanish.

Although I have always listened to a lot of flamenco and despite taking up the guitar when I was 15, one of my greatest regrets is never learning to play flamenco guitar. Instead I was drawn to British folk music.

I am a bit of a 'Jack of all trades, master of none' and have played in the world of folk and folk rock for over thirty years. I am a member of Albion Morris Men and have been musician and dancer for over 20 years. I was also an original member of Shave the Monkey for over 15 years.

Being a member of Albion Morris and Shave the Monkey has given me the opportunity to play with some wonderful musicians and to play all over the UK, Europe and Canada.

I currently play in the acoustic ceilidh band Dangerous Circles and it's folk rock big brother Swindlers & Gentry. Also, when ever possible, I also play in Ian Cutler's Slaughterhouse as well.

Influences:

My influences are many and varied especially the likes of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Pywackett, The Albion Band, Home Service, Alan Stivell, Planxty, Tri Yann, Clannad, Kadril, Blowzabella, Carlos Nunez, Hevia, Genesis, Pink Floyd and Yes.

It was Planxty's Donnal Lunny that inspired me to take up playing the Bouzouki, Pywackett's Bill Martin keyboard playing that made me want to play synths in folk rock bands and Woodcraft Folk campfires that inspired me to take up the guitar in the first place.
