I'm Laura Donnelly. In some circles that's pronounced Lawwwwra (like in Brooklyn and Lawwwwng Gyland), other scenarios you wanna say Lauuuuuura (these circles usually include chicas big and small.) In some circles, I'm white - others I have been described as Irish-Cuban-Peruvian descent. That shit was off, but went out to one million readers of Womens ENews.Now, that I got the hang of this My Space thing (thanks Yolanda), I am making a few changes.I was born and raised in Queens, NY where we played joyously in grey snow in the winter and stuck frequently to plastic covered furniture all summer. There I learned how to talk with my hands and how to get beers fast for my uncles playing craps - a dollar a bottle was a lot of cabbage for a 7 year old!We then moved to NJ to a beautiful hamlet called Sparta - a community comprised of one half retired NYC cops, the other mafiosa. And, they all hung out together betting on football.I moved back to NYC - my city, la land de las morenas. I miss the smell - the art - skating in the park - Russo, Rocky, Navarro, Lainus Maximus and Hogan - even Thalberg sometimes.Years ago some Texans in NJ said I should move to Texas and I said you must be smoking crack. Well, they weren't and I'm here. I co-founded Latinitas Magazine at the University of Texas with amazing Mexicana and comadre Alicia Rascon. Latinitas Magazine evolved into two magazines - one for teens, too and 20 after school programs, a teen reporter intern program, presentations, workshops and all sorts of other ways to get Latina youth to learn about journalism and technology. It has been amazing watching the girls grow up and begin to see themselves as reporters, editors, U.S. Presidents, rock stars and, basically, powerful Latinas. plain layout @ HOT FreeLayouts.com MyHotComments
