About Me

Gary Kaye has been writing and performing songs since 1990 (when he was a member of glam metal band Child's Play). He then formed Chaos with Mick Sugden and Steve Wilmers. The band has great local success before going their seperate ways. Gary then joined local heroes, The Big Bang, as vocalist. The Bang played gigs in London and Amsterdam, as well as many, many well attended local shows. Having left the Big Bang in 1992 Gary spent a few years in the wilderness before forming Hollow Horse in 1997. Over ten years HH played as a duo, a 3 piece and a full four piece outfit. After 10 years together the band played a series of anniversary gigs in 2007 before going onto the backburner, allowing Gary to pursue a solo career. Gary Kaye is currently recording his debut solo CD and is planning a retrospective CD (covering recordings from his previous bands). Plans to play live as much as possible in 2008.I've been writing and performing poetry and music for the past 15 years. I have a degree in English Language and Literature from Leeds University and an MA in Writing from Sheffield Hallam University. In 2005 I won the prestigious Ilkley Literature Festival Open Mic Competition. In the same year I became Poet in Residence at Leeds Utd Football club. This role led to the publication of my first volume of poetry 'A Fan For All Seasons'. I also performed on the pitch at Elland Road in front of 27,000 people. My work as a performance poet has seen me read my work in various venues, including The Royal Festival Hall in London and the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds. I have also acted as MC at a number of poetry events. For the past 3 years I have been a regular performer in the media. I contribute on a regular basis to BBC Radio Leeds, as well as appearing on BBC television, Talksport Radio, Radio 5 Live and Radio 2.URGENT:THEY STOLE OUR LAND"They stole my land, burnt my olive trees, destroyed my house, took my water, imprisoned my father, killed my mother, starved us all, humiliated us all. But I am to blame : I shot a rocket back. So they stole more of my land, burnt my olive trees, destroyed my house, took my water, bombed my country..."Featuring words partly inspired by one of the hundreds of hand-written anonymous placards carried at the 3rd Jan demonstration in London the Palestine 09 design expresses vividly the cycle of despair that has turned the tiny Gaza strip into a war zone of Israeli reprisals using its overwhelming military might.
