Born to parents of multi-cultural decent on the Island Jamaica, Maxine King migrated to the United States in the 1986. Her love of music was innate. She writes from an inspirational perspective, something she has been doing since childhood.
Ms. King is unique; there is usually a breath of fresh air whenever she belts-out her original sounds--with her strong, sure, powerful, textured vocal range. Her skill and dexterity cannot be denied. She is always accepted by an appreciative audience on all occasions and normally receives exceptional applause after each rendition. She was privileged to share stage with legendary stars such as Isaac Hayes, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Ray Goodman & Brown, The Manhattans, Grammy winner Michael Rose formerly of Black Uhuru, Gregory Isaac--the cool rulers of reggae, Sizzla, Cocoa Tea, Capleton, Beenie Man, Andrew Tosh and many others. In additions, she performed at venues all over the country including Downing Stadium, Roseland Ballroom, Aaron Davis Hall, Carbon nite Club, SOB's, Lion's Den and Tramps, in New York City.
Maxine is an exciting, multi-talented artist who writes, composes, and arranges some of her songs. She grew up under the musical umbrella of the 809 band that includes reggae greats such as Dean 'Youth Sax' Fraser, a Saxophone master, and Desmond 'Roots' Young (president of the Federation of musicians, in Jamaica.) This group is well known in Jamaica for backing internationally famous artistes on the road.
Ms. King is a conscious, spiritual entrepreneur who always seemed destined to not only succeed but to excel in her successes... She attended workshops such as "So You Want To Be A Star, Inc." Spearheaded by Chris Curry of Ray Goodman & Brown. In addition, she did a bit of acting, where she was an extra in the movie called" Brooklyn Babylon" and was featured in the CAST of " Your Arms Too Short to Box With God" starring Cissy Houston. Maxine was very instrumental in the coordination of the first Memorial celebration for (THE LATE CROWN PRINCE OF REGGAE) Dennis Brown. she was also one of the founders of Basic Productions," an organization that produces the popular" Open Mike Thursdays," in Brooklyn, NY. She also co-hosts radio programs including " basic Links," heard on a local station in Brooklyn and "Flash Back" on WPAT in New York City. She is one of the producers of "FOREVER REGGAE TV" aired on a Cable-Television station in New York.
Maxine has contributed to numerous charities in her community. Her involvements led her to donate her time and talents to organizations such as the Caribbean-American Out Reach Association (USA) Inc., that helps children with aids in the Caribbean and American; The Ethiopian World Federation Inc., an organization of African unity; Harlem Week; The Flatbush Empire Park Side Merchant Association that conducts annual street fares in Brooklyn to promote unity throughout the community; Marcus Garvey Park Conservancy in Harlem, New York, a group that helps to keep the park crime-free and maintain programs that uplift children and adults in the community. They also repaired to Watch Tower of the park, a historical landmark. She contributed to the Caribbean Community by donating her time and talent to JAMAICA DAY," an annual event presented by RED STRIPE to give back to the community, held at the Aqueduct Race Track, in Queens, New York.
Maxine is also a member of McDonalds's NEW YORK METRO GOSPEL CHOIR, a choir that has the honor of singing behind such performers as gospel legend Cissy Houston, Vickie Winans, Donnie McClurkin, Melba Moore as well as being featured in McDonald's Gospel fest 2000-2007. This choir has travel the nation performing in venues as diverse as Ebony/Colgate’s Inauguration, US Marshall’s Black History Celebration, and The Knicks game at Madison Square Garden, Hezekiah Walker in concert at Radio City Music Hall, Fox Woods as well as numerous other galas and theatrical presentations.
