I am here for Friends

About Me

In 2000, Antoine and Lio started to record their songs on their Dream Machine (an 8 track-recorder). A couple of months later, they called their brothers and two other friends in order to form a band. Then, they began to play live. The band sent some demos to promoters, magazines and record labels. To their great surprise, responses began to come back to them. Their songwriting and stage presence left people wanting more. In May 2002, Girls in Hawaii joined the stable of 62 TV Records. The group spent the summer writing new songs and recording on a mobile multi-track recorder in various country houses. The French music magazine "Magic" wrote about their first demo: "Simplicity, efficiency and accuracy close to perfection, lots of ideas... Their music reminds us of Grandaddy, Blonde Redhead, and even Deus."In November 2002, Girls in Hawaii won Studio Brussels´ Demopoll, a demo contest, during which they were chosen among hundreds of bands and elected number one by Studio Brussels listeners.Their very first release was "Found in the Ground - The Winter EP". Some quickly called them "the latest Belgian pop sensation." "Found In the Ground" was tested live as an opening song in well picked stage appearances, such as: The Nuits du Botanique in Brussels, Dead Man Ray's after show at the Ancienne Belgique, their very first Parisian gig during the "Festival Des Inaperçus", and the Domino Festival in Brussels. In November 2003, the band released their first LP, "From Here To There." It received great reviews across Europe, where the band started touring. Their tour started in Belgium by selling out the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels while playing with fellow bands Ghinzu and Sharko in January 2004. They moved onto France, Italy, Germany, and Spain. The record was released in Japan. In September 2005, Girls in Hawaii hit American soil by playing at CMJ in New York. In October 2005, the new record company China Shop Music released it in the United States. In March 2006, Girls in Hawaii came to the U.S. once again to perform at SXSW in Austin, Texas. In April 2006, Girls in Hawaii did a west coast mini tour, which included a stop at KCRW with Nic Harcourt. In March 2007, KCRW's Covers Compilation, Sounds Eclectic, became available in U.S. Hear Music/Starbucks locations. Girls in Hawaii 's version of Neil Young's "Out on the Weekend" was chosen as the #1 track. Other artists featured on the compilation are: REM, The Flaming Lips, Robert Plant, Sia, Damien Rice, Dido, and K.D. Lang. For now, Girls in Hawaii working on a new album in their home studio in Brussels due to be released in 2007.
