NoFro (aka Danny Thomas) grew up listening to Reggae in Peckham, London. His family is originally from Jamaica, and music has always been a big part in Danny’s life. His uncle was a professional jazz pianist and singer, and regularly jammed on his Hammond Organ in venues around Brixton. Danny always used to watch and listen in amazement, but never had any interest in playing the piano himself, so he started experimenting on the bongos at school when he was seven years old. Inspired by artists such as The Jackson Five, Bob Marley, The Upsetters and funk by James Brown, Brother Johnson and Joe Tex.In 1982 Danny joined a Reggae band as a percussionist, and has been jamming ever since, bringing an Afro Cuban energy to the music he plays on. He has recently been gigging all around London with the jazzy house band KI, at venues such as Café de Paris, Bar Mezza, the Tabernacle, Clapham North and Guilfest.NoFro is now working on The Jazz on Vinyl project to bring his South American and African beats to the live performance. He specializes in the Brazilian Cuica, Cuban Claves and Ghanian Chekere.
