Dim Media is a Minneapolis based artist collaborative/studio/mini-conglomerate combining the talents of Charles Denton, Joe Lipscomb and Blaine Garrett. Although our artists share an appreciation for surreal narrative/expression, we differ drastically in style. Through such collaboration we offer many bizarre combinations of paintings between realism, comic, and abstract.
Dim Media’s name references fading light’s descent into darkness. In the overall narrative we’ll see Dim Media is less interested in the black vs white (absolute good vs absolute evil) dynamics and more interested in exploiting different shades of gray and the journeys of intention.
DIM MEDIA:
A multi-solution theme with an undercurrent of diversion that has similar results to the glossy overcoat of a fancy film jacket. To entertain by existential undertones and distractions. Any method of amusement using commonplace reference to elevate, enrich and enlighten.
COLLECTIVELY TANGENTIAL:
“For most of us most of the time, the world of everyday experience seems rather dim and drab. But for a few people often, and for a fair number occasionally, some of the brightness of visionary experience spills over, as it were, into common seeing, and the everyday universe is transfigured.â€
Aldous Huxley 'The Doors of Perception and Heaven and Hell'.
Dim: 1. not bright; somewhat dark 2. not clear or distinct in character 3. without luster 4. not clearly seeing, hearing, perceiving, or understanding. To make dim. To grow dim. Dim light, dusk. To turn (headlights) on a low setting. To take a dim view…
Media: A medium for means of communication to the general public, audience and viewers. A middle state or degree. Any surrounding or pervading substance in which influences exist.
