Hello- My name is John O'Regan and I am a Broadcaster and Freelance Journalist from Limerick, Ireland.My work has appeared in magazines such as ‘ Hot Press’,"Irish Music", "fRoots", ‘MOJO’, ‘Record Collector’, "Rock 'N' Reel', and "The Living Tradition ".I have also had articles and reviews published in the USA, Canada, Germany, Norway and Australia. He contributed to "The Companion to Irish Traditional Music" (Cork University Press 1999).I am a regular contributor to the Folk and Roots Music Webzine ‘The Greenman Review’ (www.greenemanreview.com). My work was cited in ‘Irish Folk, Trad and Blues-a Secret History’ by Colin Harper and Trevor Hodgett (Collins Press 2006) and ‘Beautiful Day-40 Years of Irish Rock’ by Sean Campbell (Cork University Press 2006).My radio broadcasting experience has included contributing to arts, music, and news programmes on RTE Radio One, 2FM, BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Radio Derby, Downtown Radio (Northern Ireland), 98FM (Dublin), and Radio Kerry.I have been a regular guest contributor on BBC Radio Scotland’s ‘Travelling Folk’ programme. I have appeared as a guest contributor on BBC Radio 4’s "Kaleidoscope" and "De Groote Boodschaap" on VRT Radio 1 in Brussels.Other radio stations I have guested on include Newstalk 106FM-Dublin, Ireland, WUMU in Cleveland Ohio USA in summer 2003. In Limerick, I presented a programme of Folk/Celtic/Roots music "Regan's Rambles" on Radio Limerick One from 1989-1992.I have written liner notes for albums by leading artists in the Folk/Roots/Acid Folk fields. Some of these releases include albums by The Dubliners, Clannad, Capercaillie, Christy Moore, John Martyn, Fairport Convention, Mellow Candle, Renaissance, Sean Tyrrell, Al Jones, The Corries, The Furey Brothers, Ashley Hutchings, Shelagh MacDonald, Gay and Terry Woods, Roy Harper, Natural Acoustic Band, Catherine Howe, David McWilliams, and Five Hand Reel.I have also branched into wider contemporary music forms such as Rock, Blues, R’n’B and World Music. He has written extensively on the work of artists such as Ravi Shankar, The Isley Brothers, The Ohio Players, Earth Wind and Fire, Johnny and Edgar Winter, Orchestra Luna, Chicken Shack, Savoy Brown, Nobody’s Business, Gravy Train, Curved Air and Shirely Bassey.I wrote the liner notes for ‘Spirit of The Irish- The Ultimate Collection’ by The Dubliners (no 28 UK Album Charts March 12th 2003, and ‘Grace and Pride- The Capercaillie Anthology 1984-2004’ a 20th anniversary anthology of Scottish Roots/Fusion band Capercaillie. I compiled and annotated a collection of traditional and contemporary songs in the Irish language ‘Gaelic Ireland’ (ARC Music EUCD 1821) with tracks by Altan, Kevin Conneff, The Dubliners, Cran, Brendan Begly, Katie McMahon and Brian Kennedy.
