N. Payton better known as Nick Slay is the Song writer/Composer of Top Scale Ent. He chose his grandfather's name as his stage name to represent his love and dedication for his family who supports him in whatever business and musical endeavors he pursues. Unlike the common musician who you could have found at the microphone or the keys at young age, young N. was born legally deaf. Through countless surgeries and the blessing of God he was eventually given the gift of natural hearing which he put to good use his 10th grade year of high school pursuing a new passion in life music. It was originally a creative output to cope with he loss of his mother but through countless hours of study, practice, and song writing he was able to turn it in a viable skill that earned him a musical and academic scholarship to Five Towns College. It was there at Five Towns that Nicholas also discovered his music business prowess ( especially in Music Marketing) to compliment his rising popularity in the realm of song writing. It was there he met his brothers at Top Scale who became his new inspiration and support in the drive to make it in the music industry. Besides his production mates N. finds great inspiration in the music of B.B. King, Antonio Vivaldi, Al Green, and a host of other music artists in too many genre's to name. His greatest aspiration is to first make the most of the blessing the Lord has given him musically and make a stamp on the industry in a memorable way like the astounding people found in history textbooks. One of N.'s favorite quotes is that: "What is a life where in all your talent and blessings you forget to give back and give thanks for all that has been bestowed upon you." For N. song writing is the underlying drive for all of his future ambitions. He believes that his ability to express the world around him in words and sound will help someone deal with the emotions that they are dealing with, whether they be happy or sad, missing someone or hating their guts, his music will set the ideal mood. That's why you'll find a wide array of music conveying different emotions in his cd player at any point and time. His usual artistic leanings in music leads to him to create music that experiments and tries to take music in new directions in his live arrangement, as far as lyrically he tries to put his full heart and soul into every syllable because N. has always been told by the young and old that his music and words have always helped someone deal with some situation that they were struggling with. N. brings gift of compliment to the production to his fellow Top Scale associates whether it be in music, film, or business. His talents and ability helps fill a link in a chain that each member of Top Scale contributes to. His weapons of choice are the blessing of melody, pen and pad, roland xp-50, and a cherry red jazz hollowbody guitar. N.'s heroes include the heavy weights of the music, Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Babyface, Bach, and not to mention his Grandmother for if it wasn't for her he wouldn't be able grace the keys or the pen that he so loves.
