About Me

Hi. I'm a native of the DC area. I joined MySpace to keep up with favorite musicians/groups after discovering so many old and new artists here. Now I know who's recording, gigging, or giving up the ghost! I tend to like 80's to present not-so-pop stuff....even the current artists I follow are often those inspired by 80's post-punk. I'm also still discovering old stuff I barely knew about, couldn't afford to buy, or foolishly ignored. There was scarcely any music in my house growing up (a little Merle Haggard, the occasional Elvis record, and smatterings of radio heard here and there). I felt totally out of touch among my peers, and finally got a radio and record player (late 70's). Like most kids I wanted to fit in....so I listened to top 40, at first devouring the charts with gusto. Then the first smatterings of new wave made it to the radio when I was in high school, the energy made an immediate impression. One week I was home sick for a few days from school...and heard the same songs repeated ad nauseum (Leo Sayer, Christopher Cross, Debbie Boone...awful, sappy ballads). I could takes no more! I began listening to WHFS when it was at 102.3 on the dial. The station played everything from new wave to reggae to rockabilly...not that I liked all of it, but it was refreshingly different. I had some pretty cool friends back then, and they got me to go to live shows at the old 9:30 club, the Wax Museum, the Warner Theater, etc. We also went clubbing at places like Poseurs and Cagney's, thrashing around on the dance floor, soaking up new sounds and watching awesome videos. During my college days I also started going to gay clubs, picking up some influences of DOR and R & B and adding them to my listening. During those years my radio station moved to 99.1 on the dial, commercialized to compete with a big rock station, and ultimately failed. It became harder to hear about really cool new artists....and that's how I ended up here.------------------------------------------------ You should create your own MySpace Layouts like me by using nUCLEArcENTURy .COM's MySpace Profile Editor !

The Faint, Aug. 16, 2008

The Faint's current tour supporting the newly released 'Fasciinatiion' LP landed at the 9:30 Club on a Saturday night, no doubt helping the already popular band sell out the show. I scoured the corner...

BLONDIE in Baltimore Jun. 5, 2008

30 years ago Blondie released Parallel Lines, the album that would propel them to the heights of the American charts; putting the former darlings of CBGB's into tricky territory. Had they gone disco? ...

B-52s April 26 08

Sons&Daughters/Holy Fuck/A Place to Bury Strangers at Rock & Roll Hotel 3/19/08

The review in the Washington Post was spot on...this was a great show, but the main act got upstaged by their own openers. The line about ½ block long to get into the now-happening H Street's Rock n'...

LIARS AT 9:30 2/12/08

The last time I went to the 9:30 club on a Tuesday night was for Debbie Harry and she got a decent crowd, though no where near a sellout. Throw in an impromptu ice storm on a Tuesday and it's a wonder...

DEBORAH HARRY at the 9:30

November 13, 2007, a Tuesday night in DC isn't the best slot to play in a town of workaholics, especially the late shift (doors 10pm, Debbie on at 11:20). The 9:30 club decided to double-dip, making f...
