Scuba diving is fantastic. The beauty and variety of the undersea world never fails to entrance me. As well as diving in the chilly waters of Scotland I like to dive in the Egyptian Red Sea or other warm waters at least once per year.Scottish and Irish music are a passion too. I may not play well, but I have great fun trying. The band I am in has regular practice sessions in the Caledonian Hotel in Fort Augustus though how they put up with my whistle playing never ceases to amaze me. Better still, is listening to some of the great musicians that play in the hotel....Charlie McKerron, Duncan Chisholm, Johnnie Hardie, Christina Stewart, Lori Watson, Tim Edey, Angus Grant, Sandy Brechin, Kris Drever and Nuala Kennedy to name but a few. Rona Cooper my daughter is becoming pretty excellent too! So is Sophie, the daughter of the owners of the Caley Hotel.In fact, there's a really healthy music scene in Fort Augustus here at the moment, thanks largely to FEIS GLEANN ALBAINN,which organises weekly tuition in traditional music, an adult Feis week-end, a summer Feis for youngsters, groupwork tuition with the great Charlie McKerron of Capercaillie and is currently organising the most ambitious project of all, a summer festival called NESSFEST. This will feature some of the best traditional bands around including SHOOGLENIFTY, WOLFSTONE, LAU, SIRENS, and DARIEN PROJECT as well as craft stalls and the MAGIC CHALLENGE in which top magicians will be competing for a cash prize in Fort Augustus. It could just be the Highland small event of the year.
