Gauri Sharma Tripathi’s WAQT
Waqt is the stunning new dance production by Gauri Sharma Tripathi, one of the world’s leading exponents of Indian Kathak Dance.
This is the first time she tours the UK with a full-length show featuring UK and India based dancers and musicians.
The piece, partly inspired by Javed Akhtar's poem of the same name, explores the rich resonance of Kathak, in its’ rawest forms...
The performance features music by the highly acclaimed Niraj Chag (Bangles, Along The Dusty Road) and live vocals by Reena Bhardwaj (A R Rahman’s The Rising, Bombay Dreams; Nitin Sawhney’s Human, Philtre).
Other renowned performers include: Sanju Sahai (Tabla), Soumik Datta (Sarod), Dhiren Raichura (Guitar & Additional Original Compositions), Sveta Hattangdi Kilpady (Vocals), Alaknanda Samarth (Dramaturg / Text Analysis) and ANKH Dance Company including Hima Patel, Jesal Patel, Seema Patel, Rachel Waterman and Payal Patel.
Guest artists include Kalinath Mishra / Aniruddha Mukherjee (Tabla) and Chandra Chakraborty (Vocals). Significantly, we have our Guru-ji Smt. Padma Sharma (Padhant) guiding us.
Gauri's other recent achievements include choreographing the acclaimed solo-piece for Akram Khan in Sacred Monsters [2006] and Sadler's Wells' forthcoming dance theatre epic Mahabharata [2007] written by Olivier-Award winning Stephen Clark and composed by Nitin Sawhney.
Tripathi has also performed for esteemed dignitaries including the Queen and head of state Tony Blair, as well as choreographed for the likes of Kylie Minogue, Elton John.
This really is a performance not to be missed, with such an esteemed array of talented dancers, musicians and singers from both India and the UK performing live on stage together; bide your Time...
