Without question one of the greatest tenor saxophonist in rhythm and blues and rock and roll. Born in Kansas in 1926 and inspired by Coleman Hawkins and Gene Ammons he moved to New Orleans in the 40's to attend Xavier University and fell in love the city's music and people. He is featured on hit recordings by Little Richard ("Tutti Frutti"), Fats Domino, Shirley and Lee, and Ernie K-Doe, Lee Allen became the in demand session man for hundreds of New Orleans recordings. "Walkin' With Mr. Lee" released in 1958 on Ember is a scorching and rollicking dance tune displaying his hard and full tone.
