Quail Studios, a completely analog recording studio, is owned and operated by Tim and Renee Quail. Tim and Renee are husband and wife, musicians, composers and sound engineers.
What we do:
Recording: Sound recording is best classified as an art form as both music and recording are subjective in nature and rely on the tastes and experience of those involved. We use our talent and knowledge of analog recording media technology to convey the best possible sound that we can for you - the customer. If you like a sound that is "full" "punchy" "gutsy" and "raw" analog recording may be just the thing for you.
Composing: We compose and record our own music, and we can help you with yours. Our songs are on the rotation at a multitude of net radio stations and are receiving some airplay as well on their sister stations. We have been selected for several compilation CD's and appear on numerous podcasts.
Session Work: We are available on a limited basis for session work on your project. Just ask us for session musician rates. Sometimes we throw stuff in for free - we are very cool that way.
Studio Policies:
We charge $200.00 per song, includes recording, mixing and editing. Our rates include the engineer's time even if two engineers are involved, which is often the case. Sometimes we will cut you a better deal out of sincere appreciation for your having done business with us and because it is nice to be nice.
We will provide you with one CD of your recording when you leave. We will burn additional CDs for you at the cost of $2.00 per CD.
You must go elsewhere for mastering of your CD. We are NOT a mastering house. We send our own stuff out to be mastered.
If you wish to purchase the actual tape and take it with you when you go, the cost is currently $125.00 per roll (the price of tape has gone up just like everything else). Otherwise, we will either store it for three (3) months and then erase it if and when we feel like it, or immediately erase it at your request. If you choose to take it with you and bring it back again to do further recordings, that is fine, as long as it is in good shape. Just remember that the tape must be stored vertically, in a cool dry place, tails out to prevent bleeding of one track onto another. We reserve the right to refuse to utilize any tape that is not up to our standards, simply because it can ruin our equipment.
We can also refer you to someone who specializes in baking tapes and who can actually transfer your analog recording to digital if that is something you would like to do.
The studio is currently booked through January 31, 2010.
