About Me

The members of Circus Diem have been writing, performing and producing original poetry events in the Midwestern United States since the turn of the millenium. In 2006 the members began informally work shopping each others writing on a regular, weekly basis. This took the form of dinner parties, or 'cheap dates' as Heather Knowles had called them, at Heather Knowles and Heather Skinner's apartment. Initially, the group was simply composed of Heather Knowles, Heather Skinner, Matt Luejte and Jon Gearino. The circle widened with the introduction of performers from the Ames Poetry Slam. And then again with an influx of writers from Oskaloosa.* * *After several months of work shopping and performing with one another on numerous stages the founding members of Circus Diem chose to organize into a group that would showcase their particular talents and ideals. And thus the organization was born.* * *The name Circus Diem was penned by Jon Gearino in an attempt to describe his views on human expression.. He chose the name as a play on words. In Latin, Circus means Circle and Diem means Day, implying both the begininglessness and endlessness of art and culture.* * *The fact that he was a fan of gothic American circus posters was purely coincidental.* * *The members of Circus Diem continue an age old oral tradition begun by the tribal troubadours of pre-literate civalization. Working to invoke the intangible heritage of humanity while refusing subjection by the current social construct, guardian doctrine or movements that attempt to define genre and boundary.
