Gianni Mendes

About Me

Gianni Mendes, with Brazilian and Italian roots and having lived for long periods in Spain is, as he likes to say for fun, "half Italian, half Brazilian, and half Spanish". Gianni started playing classical guitar and Brazilian music, such as Samba and Bossanova, with seven years old. At twelve, after listening an album of Paco de Lucia, Gianni fell in love with the Flamenco music, thanks also to his father, a great "aficionado" of Flamenco and the guitar players of his time. Gianni has participated to the Festival de Flamenco de Cordoba, where he performed with great names of the Flamenco music, such as Enrique de Melchor and Rafael Riqueni. He has been one of the few lucky guitarists to have studied for extended periods with Manolo Sanlucar and Enrique de Melchor. Gianni has performed all over the world, including Italy, Spain, France, Brazil, and the United States. Among the several performances, those ones with Enrique de Melchor at Grenoble and Lion (France) and the Gypsy Kings at San Giovanni Rotondo (Italy) have been especially remarkable. In 2002, Gianni presented his first solo album, "COLORES". Internationally renowned Flamenco artists such as Enrique de Melchor, Guadiana, Juan Parrilla, Antonio Ramos, and Ramon Porrina participated to Gianni Mendes's debut. Considered from his "Maestros" a promise of the New Flamenco, Gianni is now presenting for the first time in the United States "COLORES", a project where Flamenco, Brazilian music, and Pop meet creating a brilliant and innovative fusion.
