Band Members: The song A Spray of Stars is from a recording I did in 2005 with guitarist John McLean, bassist Dan DeLorenzo, and drummer Jim Widlowski, who are also featured on my CD "A Different Vibe". Zach Brock is added on Mothra Takes A Break, another unreleased recording. All tunes are my original compositions. The group "Tudo de Bom performs Round Robin, featuring Jeff Beer-trumpet, Juli Wood-tenor sax, Dan DeLorenzo-bass, Mike Schlick-drums, I’m playing vibes as usual.
Influences: As a jazz composer I am influenced by many styles of music including classical, world music, pop as well as jazz.Some of my favorite jazz musicians are: Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Roland Kirk, Kenny Werner, Brad Mehldau, Keith Jarrett, Gary Burton, Milt Jackson, Bobby Hutcherson, Mark Feldman among many. Favorite jazz composers include, Ben Allison, Dave Douglas, Matt Wilson, Ellington (of course), Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk. Classical composers who have influenced my playing and writing include John Adams, Lou Harrison, Messiaen, Britten, Bach, Beethoven.I have been influenced by so many types of world music that starting to name artists becomes a bit of a chore. However, some favorites are from Argentina; Astor Piazzolla, from Brasil; Gilberto Gil, Jobim, Djavan, Joyce, Latin influences from Cachao, Tito Puente, Chucho Valdes, African; Toumani Diabate, Thomas Mapfumo, I.K. Dairo on and on... Also influenced by many Indian and Middle Eastern musicians, Asha Bhosle, Ravi Shankar, etc.Other influences, the Beatles, Paul Simon, poets Rumi and Hafiz.
