Kherson Amell

About Me

Currently residing in Toronto, Kherson has been most commonly associated with drum instruction in the Kingston, Ontario region for the last twelve years. In his formative years he studied with drum guru Chris McCann of Montreal's McGill University. The need for constant growth has led to Kherson to augment his expertise with lessons from such Canadian drumming luminaries as Rick Gratton and Paul Delong, some extended studies with the ferocious David Langguth, and finally the legendary Joe Morello.During the span of his near two-decade performance career Kherson has been privileged to work with members of The Tragically Hip, CBC radio jazz darlings Haskell and the Cleavers, guitarist Ian McNally (Amanda Marshall), guitarist Eric Schenkman of The Spin Doctors, and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Member Bernie Worrell (Keith Richards, Parliament Funkadelic, Talking Heads). His playing has given him the opportunity to perform across Canada and into the USA, and drawn accolades from such Canadian drummers as Mitch Dorge of the Crash Test Dummies, Paul Brennan (Big Sugar), and the legendary Pat Steward (Bryan Adams, Odds, Colin James, Matthew Good). Kherson is currently balancing his teaching schedule with free-lance performances and recordings, as well as performances across Canada.

My Interests

Influences: Mostly stuff that doesn't suck, but likely some stuff that does. John Bonham and Tony Williams influence, for better or worse, everything that I do. Warm thanks to my two major teachers and influences over the years, Chris McCann and Dave Langguth. Honourable mentions go to Stewart Copeland, Chris Layton, Charlie Watts, Bill Bruford, JoJo Mayer, Vinnie Colaiuta, Billy Cobham, Zigaboo Modeliste, Steve Smith, Steve Gadd, Steve Jordan and who could forget my friend my friend Pat Steward? Lowell George-era Little Feat. Motown since I was a youngster when my parents overplayed The Big Chill soundtrack in the car. Hip-hop beats and production have really gotten to me in the last few years. Radiohead!!! Power Station, The Outfield and every other wide screen drum sound one-hit wonder band from the 80's. Indiana Jones, Moosehead and cartoons.
