Cardinal Fluff

About Me

Cardinal Fluff was born in the summer of 1991 in Oxford, Mississippi, when Moon Pie Curtis and Captain Midnight joined forces. That summer, they wrote "Jug of Wine," "Pickle Juice Sisters" and "Statutory Blues" and were on their way. Captain Midnight's 4-track recording prowess, along with a Korg drum machine, yielded now classic recordings of the young duo, who by this time were readily telling the world of their heady concoctions. This early era included only a few live performances, including a first performance at a house party at the home of Mikey Namarato, now Judas Cooter, with Mikey on drums; a gig at an art show at "The Big House" with Yngwie Metzger manning the fill button on the drum machine; and another party slot at The Padded Cell, featuring Chris Goodwin on drums. The end of this era and the beginning of the next came when Buck Ass Rogers was recruited on drums and Dr. Jeeko on bass, and Fluff performed a 30-minute set at a day-long lineup of local bands at Proud Larrys in Oxford. Years of talking shit around town culminated in a packed house of curious onlookers, waiting to see either a train wreck or the promised, unadulterated rock glory. They got the latter. For the better part of the next year, Fluff rocked Oxford audiences and opened for 2LiveCrew in the now infamous concert that killed The Lyric Hall. In early 1997, Moon Pie Curtis left the group and Fluff soldiered on — at times featuring Midnight as the lone guitarist and vocalist, at other times featuring also J. P. Gottrock and later the wildly talented genius Lightnin' Gomez as co-frontman. By 1999, Fluff disbanded, as Captain Midnight moved south to New Orleans, where he would become a member of groups All That and Cronk before forming The Captain Midnight Band. In the 10 years since his departure from Fluff, Moon Pie has written a bunch of songs and performed sporadically in public.
