Final Gravity

About Me

Now playing: Final Gravity
What is "Final Gravity"? Is it what causes a singularity, a collapse of matter beyond the event horizon? Is it the final density of beer after all the fermentable sugar has been used up by the yeast? Is it what you feel when a sumo wrestler sits on you?
In this case, it's a band of four talented men with something on their minds. That something is good old hard rock, forged in the late 60's with bands like Led Zeppelin with side trips into prog rock in the 70's with the likes of Yes and Rush. You might also catch their King's X, Porcupine Tree, Metallica, Dream Theater, Queensryche, Fates Warning, King Crimson or Tool influences if you listen closely, which you should.
Beyond their MP3 collections, the guys have the chops to back up their ambitions. Bassist Charles and guitarist Mike met while attending Musicians Institute. Mike went on to get his bachelor's in music (classical guitar, specifically). John on drums and Bill on vocals, veterans of the college band scene around Penn State, joined forces with these two to play covers. That band was short-lived, but it did set the stage for Final Gravity's all-originals format.
From short, angular aggressive songs with shifting time signatures to eight-minute-plus epics, from deceptively straightforward-sounding party anthems to introspective ballads, Final Gravity covers territory that can best be described as "album rock".
Their live shows are always presented with an emphasis on tight performance and songs; no unaccompanied drum/guitar/bass solos here!
So, really, what does "Final Gravity" mean? Well, there are two homebrewers, a state-level certified beer judge and four avid craft beer drinkers in the band, so what do you think?
