Define aka DefinetheArtist's Biography:
Define aka DefinetheArtist is a poet, musician, and independent promoter from the St. Paul/Minneapolis area of Minnesota. From his earliest memory he states that he found peace in music. Growing up on the music of Kiss, N.W.A., Public Enemy, Van Halen, Dr. Dre, Metallica, Eazy-E, Nirvana, Ice Cube, EPMD, Korn, DJ Quik, 311, Green Day, Rancid, Nine Inch Nails, Gang Starr, Rage Against The Machine, Deftones, Zebrahead, A Tribe Called Quest, House of Pain, and Marilyn Manson, Define has been writing since 1994 at the age of 12 and started teaching himself how to play the guitar at 15.
When he first heard local Minneapolis/St. Paul music, particularly the HeadShots tapes "Effort" and "Industrial Warfare" at the the age of 16 he felt inspired more than ever to focus on writing Hip-Hop oriented music. A few years later Define started recording his first demos in 2000 on a Tascam 4-Track with a SM58 mic to instrumentals that he could find to download on the internet by artists such as RZA, DJ Premier, and Dr. Dre.
At the end of 2006 he started making his first beats. In the spring of 2007 Define self-released his first single titled "1ne" and soon after released a collection of his early 4-Track demos which he called "The Virgin EP". In October of the same year he released his first full-length album "Reality" which consisted of various polical, autobiographical, and concious tracks about his views on life and existence, experiences, and his constant battles with drugs. "Reality" also featured guest appearances by from Deeprock Chakra, Emohtep, Miss Gracie, MC Critical, and Brian Taylor, as well as a couple of freestyles in a manner in which Kristoff Krane described as "similar to that of Buck 65."
In the last days of '07 Define and Deeprock Chakra aka Chakra 1 formed the crew Isotope which consisted of the two of them as well as Miss Gracie. Isotope cut some tracks together and performed on numerous bills in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area for about 4 or 5 months until Miss Gracie left the crew due to a falling out between her and Define. After that Deeprock Chakra and Define continued to perform together as Isotope. After a couple months they mutually decided to take a break from Isotope and focus on new solo material. Currently Deeprock (born Steve Foster and a native of Indianapolis, Indiana) is stuck in Chicago, Illinois on probation for a year. Define, Deeprock, as well as his family ask that you please keep him in your prayers and send him positive energy. Needless to say that Isotope is currently on hold. However, believe it, Isotope will be back in effect as soon as Chakra 1 is back.
Define is currently working on the first volume of a free download series called "Stitched Up (The Mini Mixtape Series)" which features exclusive and unreleased tracks by him as well as songs he likes by other artists and friends as well. The project is being compiled in traditional DJ mixtape fashion. Define is also writing new material for a new release due out later this year.
