I am here for Friends

About Me

“Short, fat, gray-haired old man…”

Still with me?

Well, let’s try this. I am a Christian, conservative Republican. Married to my college best friend for the past 32 years, and more in love than ever. Active in the Church of the Nazarene. Father of two and grampa to two. Other descriptors include: mercy, meticulous, geek, and safe. Oh yeah, and I am 5'7", 200 lb., and 55 years old.
Hobbies -- I’m sort of a “Jack of All Hobbies, Master of None”. These include:

Walking – I have the honor and privilege to walk my daughter’s dog, Murray (named after a Stargate SG-1 pseudonym for one of the characters…). During the Spring, Summer and Fall we get 2 to 3 miles in almost every night after work.

Reading – Mostly action, adventure, war. And lots of other, now that I think about it.

Amateur radio – Extra class license under the old licensing system. Had a lot of fun learning this hobby. Used to sit late into the night making contacts all over the world. Loved CW! But, have been inactive for many years.

Bicycle repair and maintenance – Got interested in this ‘cuz it had special tools, and I tend to be mechanically inclined. I’ve helped in clinics before, and rebuilt bikes to give away.

Woodworking – Again, tools! I’ve designed and built a few simple pieces of furniture.

Computers – People come to me to help with computers. I’ve built about 3 dozen machines. I do Mac and PC. I started with an Apple //c, learning Applesoft, peeks, pokes and calls. All that to say, I am only low-medium geeky, knowing what I don’t know. Currently, I’m spending a lot of time with iTunes.

Computer gaming – Lots of computer games over the years. Loved Sundog, one of my first absorption, long-term games. Big Rainbow Six fan. Played a lot of Warbirds and Aces High online. Never great at them, but had a lot of fun. Not much time spent gaming anymore.

Cooking – Cooking is fun! Bought my wife a set of All Clad pots and pans, so I can use them, too. But, the cast iron skillet is mine.

Camping and hiking – Used to camp a lot, but don’t seem to get out as much anymore. Lots of good camping gear out in the garage. Used to arrange and outfit for many a church campout.

Fishing – Got rid of the boat several years ago, so am at the mercy of friends to take me out, now. Love halibut fishing, but also enjoy shore fishing. Dad taught me to tie my own hook sets, fish effectively, and how to clean the catch. Fishing reminds me of Dad.

Audiophile – More of a wannabe. I like good gear, but don’t go high end. Listen to lots of music.

Shooting – Ah! The current leisure activity. I’m an NRA certified instructor and national appointed youth rifle coach, and teach firearms safety classes. Lead a 4-H shooting sports club for 10 to 15 year olds. Reload and shoot a fair amount. Have taught a couple of AR-15 assembly classes, and assembled 7-8 rifles. Have attended handgun classes at Front Sight and Firearms Academy of Seattle. My Second Amendment rights are very important to me.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Many of my MySpace friends are sites for fans of singers. I am always surprised and warmed when someone actually answers one of my comments or messages. I'm finding a lot of excellent music through MySpace! Some of my friends are family, both immediate and extended. In a way, this is another way to keep touch, and in fact, get to know them in a way I normally may not. And, there are my friends that have somehow sought me out as a MySpace friend for some reason or another. For those that want to get to know me, Welcome!
