SCARABCLUB.ORG Detroit's historic Scarab Club has been dedicated to serving the public and Michigan artists of all disciplines for 100 years. The club accomplishes this mission through classes, lectures, exhibitions, special events, and tours. The Scarab Club strives to promote local artists, emerging and experienced. It also hosts a variety of educational and instructional events.
The Scarab Club building, constructed in 1928, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places as a site of historical and architectural significance. The club features a main gallery, a spacious beamed lounge area with fireplace, artists’ studios, and a walled garden and courtyard. Over the decades the beams in the lounge have been signed by club presidents, supporters of the arts, and well-known local and international artists, such as Diego Rivera, Norman Rockwell, Marshall Fredricks, Marcel Duchamp and Tyree Guyton.
The galleries are open to the public from noon-5pm Wednesday thru Sunday and during evening and weekend hours for special events. The Scarab Club is located at the northeast corner of John R and Farnsworth, just east of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
