About Me

The Hope Webbing Mill is quite a milestone in the history of the American Industrial Revolution. The textile giant lives between Esten Ave and Main Street in Pawtucket. It was a major producer of narrow woven textiles from its beginnings in the late 1800’s through World War II, made famous by its innovations and sheer size. The complex of buildings gives the impression that it was built all at once. From 1889 to 1914 the Hope Webbing Company grew and became the mill we see today. It was once one of the largest in the world at the height of its success. Today, under the direction of Urban Smart Growth, the Hope Webbing complex is being developed into an artist village. The mill will be completely restored, maintaining its historical integrity. With about 650,000 square feet of space available, it will be the largest of its kind in New England. Our vision is a community, where local residents, artisan workers, craftsman, and the like can share, live, work and play in a creative environment. Along Main Street there will be live/workspaces, offering the convenience of a combined residential and studio space. Large studio spaces are available for light manufacturing. Local artists will be featured in our boutique retail space. Year round there will be theatre, music, and fine art events in various multifunctional spaces. There will be one-of-a-kind bars and restaurants. Fully equipped executive business suites and office space will be available for long or short term lease. Our last addition will be a residential area, inviting artists and those supporting the arts to join this community. The project will be completed in phases. In the first phase of construction we have developed space for light industrial as well as finished several executive suites. We have started to plan and execute construction for retail and music studios and we are in the design stages for live/work and residential units. With easy access from I-95 and located minutes away from downtown Providence, the new Hope Artist Village will be a cultural destination point for New England. Our mission is to build and maintain this community of artists in the City of Pawtucket.
