Queens Of Reggae

RIZE Productions, MoonSplash Productions in collaboration with PCMC are pleased to announce the The Queens of Reggae”. The Queens of Reggae was created to promote female artists in the Roots/Reggae/Dancehall community, starting in Montreal and Toronto, with plans to expand across the country and continent.The next Queens of Reggae show will take place Saturday July 5, 2008 in Toronto featuring: Chatta, Tonya P, Empress Deeqa, Auresia, Makaya and Empress Minott.....and many more! Our first show took place in Montreal on Friday April 27, 2007 and featured 3 of Montreal’s hottest reggae/dancehall songstresses, Kya Kindu, Deeqa, and Auresia. All three artists were backed up by The Royals, with Selectress Buyuka spinning between sets. It was a blazin and successful night! Our second Queens of Reggae (1st Toronto Edition) took place on June 3, 2007 (9:30pm), at the El Mocambo. A portion of the ticket sales went to support youth programs in Toronto and Dominican Republic (poramor.ca).This empress night featured five of Toronto’s most talented reggae/dancehall performers: DONNA MAKEDA, TONYA P, CHATTA, GOLDILOK 1 and INSIGHT, with two of Montreal’s hottest reggae/dancehall songstresses DEEQA, and AURESIA. The night was hosted by Carrie Mullings and DJ Chocolate kept the tunes coming all night long! DEEQA is originally from Somalia and her African roots shine through when she sings, affording her a style that is uniquely her own. She has collaborated with Kali & Dub Inc., has performed at the Montreal Jazz Fest, as well as Nuits D'Afrique, and numerous other shows. She is currently working on tunes to be released on Royal Records this summer.AURESIA is also breaking new ground in the Canadian reggae scene. Born in Edmonton of Ukrainian descent, she has developed loyal and growing fan bases in both the Alberta/Rocky Mountain region and Montreal where she now lives. She has just returned from a trip to Jamaica where she has performed and recorded, and shopped her debut album, due out this spring.Queens of Reggae support and promote female reggae artists, raise money for families and children in need, share the good vibes, raise the vibes and awareness.
