Company Description
The purpose of GiveKC is to be a resource to non-profit groups in the Kansas City area which serve women and children. Our organization seeks to streamline the donation process by collecting items on behalf of the various groups and then distributing them as needed.
The company was founded in January of 2007 by Rachel Atwood after conducting a donation drive for a local women’s shelter. The inefficiency in the process was clearly evident by the large amount of products which could not be utilized by the shelter. GiveKC will offer a solution by organizing the donations then matching it up with an organization who specifies a need for that particular item.
Core Values
It is essential to have certain core values when working with people from diverse backgrounds. The GIVE model covers each of the key points that I wish to address through my organization.
1. Gender equality
2. Integrity
3. Violence-free programs
4. Environment sustainability
Gender equality is a worldwide concern due to the disproportionate amount of females who lack basic healthcare and live in poverty. My vision is to reduce gender discrimination around the world in an effort to improve living conditions for women and children.
Integrity is an important quality that is central to treating individuals fairly and respectfully. Ethical and moral principals should be paramount when making and implementing decisions.
Violence-free programs are needed to ensure that women and children are able to live without the threat of personal harm. I intend to find and develop ways of supporting violence prevention.
Environment sustainability is an essential objective throughout my personal endeavors. An awareness of how our actions impact the earth must be considered as well the effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
Services
GiveKC will help make donating easier by providing pick up service to the public who contact us with offers of donations. In addition, GiveKC will make the process more efficient by delivering the donations to those in need.
Other projects conducted by GiveKC will be the development and funding of projects which serve women and girls in Kansas City. One example is “Globes for Girls”, a project which will provide world globes to elementary and high school girls who demonstrate a commitment to their community. In addition, we would like to provide these girls with a scholarship to a local university. The intent for the “Globes for Girls” project will be an incentive for students to work to benefit their community as well as shatter the myth that science is for boys. In addition, the scholarship will provide an inventive for these girls to pursue higher education.
