It's destructive and harmful, which is what we as human beings tend to do. But in Nature. It's displayed in a physical manifestation this causes a swirl, spiral shape, the yin-yang, the tornado, whirlwind. This visual effect is the glorious dance of the opposite force attempting to regain balance, the coexistence on the same plane. The spiral is used an an axis of my pieces. It's the many selves, it's chaos and peace, it's inward and outward, expression and introversion, masculine and feminine, dominant and submissive, the contemporary and traditional, the Latina with the American fighting it out. It serves as the struggle of identity in a place and time where the dichotomy of the Latina woman is so prevalent. With the presence of it in my work I'm attempting to reinforce the my view women can play multiple roles and be successful and productive as well as playing multiple roles. I transmit this in my work by way of juxtaposing complementary and tertiary colors, extreme composition and themes of women's roles in society.
