Review of "SOMETIMES" EP by Woody of Indie Journal ~~~ "It's refreshing to me to hear a female vocalist doing what Kim Brunner is doing as opposed to what you hear women singing on the radio today. 'Sometimes' is a 4 song EP that shows off a beautiful voice. 'Old Crow' kicks off the CD in mellow rock fashion. The vocals are way too low on this first track. The guitar work is good and Kim's vocals, when I'm not straining to hear them, are superb. The backing vocal arrangement is impressive and the musical clarity is amazing. I'll have to thank my wife for vacuuming up my old headphone cable, forcing me to buy a new pair. Apart from the vocals being too quite the production is great. This is so cliché, but it reminds me of Fleetwood Mac. She doesn't sound like Stevie Nicks, it's the song style. You know how some Eagles songs have that Native-American sound to them? That's sort of what she gets. 'Sometimes' is a folksier tune. I still feel her voice is too quiet in this one. 'Against the Grain' picks up the tempo again, Somewhere at about the minute and a half mark the sound lowers for some reason, and picks up again about 15 seconds later. It doesn't sound like it was done for dynamic purposes, it sounds more like a function of the recording. 'You Call Out to Me' rounds it out in a slower style. If I have to compare Kim to someone I'd say she's a cleaner Sass Jordan, meaning smoother, both in vocals and the musical edge."
